There aren’t that many jobs attached to those headquarters, they’re mostly there on paper. It’s mostly about the taxes, which, although comparatively low, amount to a lot of revenue for the State.

Aussie Outlaw Ned Kelly's Body Armor (1879) (lemmy.world)

In 1879, Australian bushranger and outlaw Ned Kelly devised a plan to create bulletproof armour and wear it during shootouts with the police. He and other members of the Kelly gang—Joe Byrne, Steve Hart, and brother Dan Kelly—had their own armour suits and helmets crafted from plough mouldboards, either donated by...

I occasionally use LLMs to generate a set of characters for a TTRPG, if I don’t have the time to prepare and/or know we’ll play a very limited scenario in terms of who my PCs are able to meet. This is especially true for oneshots where I just don’t want to put too much work in.

I recently built a scenario for a cthulhu themed scenario, that was set in a 1920s Louisiana prison and planned for two to three sessions. I just had an LLM do a list of all the prisoners and guards on the PCs block, with a few notes on the NPCs look and character. This drastically reduced the time I had to put in preparing the scenario.

Having lived in a couple and now living in a multiple flat house built in the early 19th century I have a couple of thoughts.

Ceiling height. I am a large dude and with ceilings I can touch with my arm outstretched I constantly feel slightly claustrophobic (not in a pathological sense) like I’m in a cellar or something. I now have a ceiling that’s going on 4 meters and the rooms feel so much bigger and brighter. I know it’s harder to heat but I keep a cold flat anyway.

Size. Most of these flats are between 40 and 70 square meters. If you want something larger you’re shit out of luck. The largest I’ve seen was like bordering 80 square meters. If you have more than two kids for example that might be a bit too small.

Noise insulation. You hear everything your neighbours do. I could follow TV programs without problems and the neighbours weren’t exactly deaf. I’ve lived in blocks built in the 50s and late 80s, both modernised multiple times.

I am not a fan. There’s middle ground. Multi family houses with two to three flats per story and and four to six stories are a nice compromise between space efficiency and comfort I believe.

I, too, enjoy wet bread.

Just kidding, I don’t. Because I’m normal.

Yeah after Reading this yesterday I downloaded all my data and nuked my account.

Was barely any different from Facebook anyhow. More self promoting bullshit but same levels of insane “the gub’mint” garbage.

In reality the Soviets deliberately spread rumours that they were doing psychic shit (which they did to some very limited extent) and that lead to a panicky CIA going “Aw, shit. They must be unto something. Let’s dump billions into paranormal research.”
