i was in the comic fandom when comic pros were telling fans to stop publicly discussing their bigoted opinions and that they would handle it “behind closed doors.”

you know what this accomplished? manga and web comics continued to dominate and surpass anything marvel and dc could ever imagine.

and i don’t read that much western comics anymore so…

i find that in the last year i've looked at thought more about robots.txt files than i have in my life. mainly, it's a way to see an impotent cry of websites that are trying to prevent (any new) AI scraping attempts.

it shows an attempt thought, which is better than nothing, but if any other actions are being taken by a site it's probably not in an area i can easily see.

so i occasionally check what major sites are putting in their robots.txt

so let's take a look at Cara.app's robots.txt. It looks kinda sparse considering @cory's excellent resource provides a lot more robots they could be blocking.

again, this doesn't mean much, but it shows intent. for example, observing the anti-queer publication nytimes, i have see this list grow considerably over the last year. today i noticed their put a quick TOS at the top of the file, lol

Can someone please explain the different post privacy settings to me like I'm 5? Between the locked padlocks 🔒 , to unlocked ones 🔓 , to world icons 🌎 and what shows up where (profile or feed, or neither?), I'm slightly confused. No need to explain the DM one. That one is pretty clear.

@jedda I believe you are correct. The federation aspect of this makes some of this hard to nail down or, frankly, understand, as new connections between different servers doesn't retroactively sync the past.

@TobiX @TheEnbyWitch @glassbottommeg hey tobi, i would have but my custom search is locked behind my private network for my wife and i. so firefox wasn't happy about that. my complaint of not being able to add a custom search manually still stands because it had that feature and it was removed for some reason in favor of a thing that needs hosted configurations for the new method. meanwhile vivaldi lets me do this. i can configure if it uses get or post requests and more.

anyone who hates on tailwind needs to understand that you can't use it without also knowing css. it's also a useful tool for teams where not everyone knows css as well as you do. if you don't wanna use it, don't! but you're not gonna shame me for it that's silly.
