decided i'm gonna get really into one of those obscure horror rpgs nobody talks about like-- [frantically has to go google whether the authors are fucking monsters and that's why nobody talks about them]

zozo,
@zozo@dice.camp avatar

OH GOD FUCKING DAMN IT

zozo,
@zozo@dice.camp avatar

this isn't even a bit. i opened a book i wanted to read and INSTANTLY saw a name that was my Quit Moment

zozo,
@zozo@dice.camp avatar

this is on me for playing games that aren't Night's Black Agents and Unknown Armies again

zozo,
@zozo@dice.camp avatar

@masukomi I foolishly want to believe that nobody who made the game CRASH PANDAS could ever be a bad person

😮‍💨 this is just sad. It's like they're having to debase themselves to make enough cash to survive.

Paizo - creators of Pathfinder - have taking a pathfinder adventure path and converted it to 5e.

Also, why the eff is the pathfinder name so prominent? If that was important to me I wouldn't be buying an effing 5e version would I?!

zozo,
@zozo@dice.camp avatar

@masukomi there's actually a really fun story behind these Paizo 5e conversions, because they started as a "We'll port Kingmaker to 5e" Kickstarter stretch goal that was mostly there as a joke and then, because it's Paizo, the 5e conversion was.............. really good and people wanted more of them, so they just shrugged and did a couple more

Golarion is such a fun setting that I'm never gonna begrudge people having more entry points to experience it, it's why I love Savage Pathfinder so much

zozo,
@zozo@dice.camp avatar

@masukomi oh yeah those old APs are creaky as fuck. i think my run of Jade Regent lasted literally as long as it took me to read the first chapter and go "guys, I don't think I can DM this one"

@LeviKornelsen@dice.camp avatar

Have we considered the possibility that AIs aren't "hallucinating" at all but are just naturally sarcastic assholes?

zozo,
@zozo@dice.camp avatar

@LeviKornelsen i mean, they ARE trained on the last decade of the internet

zozo, to random
@zozo@dice.camp avatar

I continue to score a massive W because my fav asoiaf characters keep dodging grrm adaptations

@Tim_Eagon they cut nettles

Trying to work out if it is worth hooking up my TV to FreeView for the election.

Even "live" the BBC iPlayer seems to be about 90 seconds behind realtime.

(No need to explain to me how video encoding and transmission works, thanks.)

zozo,
@zozo@dice.camp avatar

@Edent 90% of freeview now is internet channels to begin with, annoyingly

zozo,
@zozo@dice.camp avatar

@Edent News ones seem to be the fastest ones to go online-only but if you're just watching BBC then it -should- be a decent option

@zozo@dice.camp avatar

im gonna be honest i was a bit ahead of the curve on loathing drake because i'd seen what he did to a generation of promising uk artists. just tore through that entire scene and squeezed out any value from them

zozo, to random
@zozo@dice.camp avatar

oh Undying rules btw

zozo,
@zozo@dice.camp avatar

I know I said I wasn't playing Vampire rpgs for a bit. I was lying

zozo, to random
@zozo@dice.camp avatar

anyway the very unfortunate trend in a lot of the indie ttrpg License analysis i'm doing is that we're increasingly seeing creators ditching their previously CC-BY works to focus instead on releasing games either wholly copyrighted (even if they were previously CC) or under bespoke community licenses to enclose frontiers and prevent the cross-polination of ideas and mechanics and ultimately that's only going to lead to the decline of specific niches

zozo, to random
@zozo@dice.camp avatar

i think the funniest thing anyone has ever asked me was to keep the events of a campaign they had dropped a year earlier at that point canon to my new group. like sorry but im not gonna be beholden to the continuity of a campaign you couldn't be arsed to play

zozo, to random
@zozo@dice.camp avatar

everybody stop doing discourse my fav gay cyberpunk comic just dropped a new chapter

dawngreeter, to random
@dawngreeter@dice.camp avatar

So, uh... Am I using Mastodon wrong? Are favorites not supposed to be used as likes? Have I been rude for favoriting instead of boosting other people's toots?

zozo,
@zozo@dice.camp avatar

@dawngreeter people are weirdos about favs for no reason. imho do what you want

Taskerland, to random
@Taskerland@dice.camp avatar

I think the decline of the GURPS toolkit book is tied to RPGs drifting away from fiction and back towards tabletop games.

Someone raised on boardgames and 5e isn't going to respond well to the idea that a book (that looks like shit) for a game they don't play is going to be mire useful and inspiring than a branded plug-and-play supplement.

zozo,
@zozo@dice.camp avatar

@Taskerland GURPS was a victim of PbtA, I think.

As much as it was a generic system, the market for GURPS was always predicated on selling supplements to emulate genres. When lightweight games came out that were all about genre emulation, the market for "yeah I'm gonna buy the GURPS corebook and all the supplements you need to run the game I actually wanna run on it" faded exponentially

zozo,
@zozo@dice.camp avatar

@deinol @Taskerland hence why i also mentioned the influence of other generic systems further down in the replies! not saying pbta solely killed it, just that GURPS got squeezed from both sides (bespoke Genre Emulation & more flexible/less expensive universal systems that gained traction due to the internet) until most of its intended audience had better places to go

i feel like most of my posts fall into greater context when it's pointed out that i am literally gen z

zozo,
@zozo@dice.camp avatar

@pteryx i have terrible news about who was using the internet as children during the early 2000s and as such are the most nostalgic for the Old Internet (gen z'ers now in their mid/late 20s)
