For me, personally, It would be Snatch. It’s such a great movie that I could watch again and again. So many interesting characters and a unique style that sets it apart from so many other movies. There’s just that extra something in that movie...
It would have to be Back to the Future. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve rewatched those movies. I also just saw the broadway musical version of it as well. If I had to choose between the three, then it would have to be the second one. There is so much iconic imagery from those movies, and I loved getting to see parts of the first from from different POVs. It has a great mix of many things that people can enjoy.
I have to say, it took me a few mins to mentally get over the fact that these characters I’ve watched so many times before were now singing. Once I got over that, it was a blast for me.
While yes, you can block them like people have said (which I do) a new place pops up everyday. It’s like whack a mole. I would love to have some kind of filter that automatically blocks any magazine/community with the word “meme” in it. I would like to not always stay on subscribed so I can see more content and not create and echo chamber for myself.
I’m not sure how helpful this will be. But the closest person to me also has Austin. It also took them longer than the standard time to finish a bachelor’s degree in a science major. They even had to take a semester off due to similar issues. They ended up resorting to shop lifting, because they couldn’t handle having, going to school at the same time and family restrictions. What helped them in the end was a change in the people they were hanging around and eventually moving. Years later they now own their own business working 1 on 1 with people in an environment they control. Out of the people on my life they make some of the most money. The best advice I see in this thread is to take a break, focus on you and figure out what works best. The industry this person got a major in usually follows a specific path, but they ended up carving out their own little space of what they wanted to do.
Yes, yes I know this is an unpopular opinion but let me give you guys an example that relates to this. You guys know email? Well if you had made an email instance and then Google made Gmail, would you guys block it? No. Just because it’s made by a big company does not mean you should block it. What if you wanted to talk to...
I will chime in for the sake of adding more votes to side of this being a bad idea (for all the reasons already stated). If you want to talk to people on threads, you can just log onto threads. The fediverse does not need to connect to every platform in existence. It’s okay to have multiple accounts on different websites for different things. We also don’t need to have infinite content, it’s fine to put your phone down every now and again.
At work we somehow landed on the topic of how many holes a human has, which then evolved into a heated discussion on the classic question of how many holes does a straw have....
Think about things from the point of view of someone who has never used Reddit or the fediverse, but you've heard about them both from recent news articles and want to see what they are about....
Agreed. I am very confused by most of these types of comments. “Why isn’t this newer thing with a smaller user base as robust and efficient as a 20yr old platform?” Things take time. Not to mention it SHOULD also take time, since these instances would not be able to hold the amount of users Reddit has. I’m sure many people complained about Reddit when they jumped from Digg.
I ask because I've been doing a lot of research the last few weeks and Google search has really let me down. I've been finding better results on DuckDuckGo and Bing. Is this a recent thing with Google or am I out of the loop? Any other search recommendations?...
Google search has been going down gradually year by year for the last decade for me. My searches have now devolved to just having google search Reddit, like most people now. I recently started using Brave and I liked that it was recapping information for me. DuckDuckGo has been hit or Miss. I’ve started seeing people me toon SearX, which I need to try.
I wish there were a search engine that prioritized searching through places like Reddit, stack exchange, Quora, etc. vs the random clickbait websites trying to sell Amazon links.
Blocking the feddit.de domain does nothing for me. I get daily new stuff from there on my feed. Blocking the individual magazines does help, but it’s now just become a part of my daily routine to block them.
I'm starting to get tired of people talking about Reddit on Lemmy. I personally don't care about Reddit anymore and am not interested in Reddit news....
On one hand (heh) there's apparently evidence to suggest that handwriting activates parts of the brain which aren't typically activated by just typing something out. I can see how that would be the case and why it could sometimes be useful....
I’ve read that writing by hand helps commit things to memory better (not sure if that’s true or not). My wife and I will write each other cards by hand for holidays, and it’s very apparent to me how much I’ve learned to rely on auto correct for many things at this point. I’ve noticed how much less my brain is working when I am just texting. As others noted it’s also useful in certain fields to carry a notebook around for meetings or events rather than relying on a phone or a laptop. I’ve also noticed the longer I go without writing, the worse my penmanship gets.
So yeah... maybe the turtle slowly waking up that he was just a Laptog for reddit and thrown away as soon as they didnt need him anymore ( moderation is allways a volunteer thing and shouldnt be like a 2nd job ).
From what I’ve learned in the last week, it seems like they abused their mod powers in some of the subs they were on. Someone at Reddit probably used all the chaos to get rid of them now, when many people had been complaining about them for a long time.
If you wish to avoid accidentally stumbling across some extremely vile, distressing, and possibly even illegal content, I highly recommend blocking the following domain: lemmynsfw.com
@Friend hmm, for some reason blocking a domain still has content pop up from it. Or maybe it’s a mobile issue? It’s only been happening with one domain thus far at least. I’ve tried unblocking and reblocking again to see if it takes.
@Friend
I believe I had blocked it a day or two before. I reblockded it this morning and haven’t seen any new ones show up. They are usually there in the morning if they show up.
Is it better for you now? I’m still in the same boat. My front page is full is mostly single digit comment stuff from Kbin. If I go to a lemmy app though, I will see more popular Kbin content on their front page than I am seeing while logged onto Kbin.
My subscribed looks alright for the most part (even though I am getting stuff I did not subscribe to), but I also want to keep discovering new magazines/communities, so I go to “All” a lot. You may be describing what I see though in terms of how kbin sorts through content on All. It just makes Kbin look really empty to me compared to Lemmy. It’s rare that I will see something with hundreds of comments on my front All page.

Okay, how do I block all this meme stuff?
Just as the title says. Dunno why memes are of interest now (out of the loop) but it’s driving me nuts
