mirror_slap,

I think the problem is that much of the "conservative" side is, well, divorced from reality. If you want to find a place in the fediverse that will simply let that slide, it's not gonna happen. As long as you've got Trump leading the polls, his lackeys wasting time in the House on nonsense while ignoring criminals like Santos, other idiots banning books, a SCOTUS that's the most blatantly corrupt, well, ever, etc. etc. etc. you're going to have a bad time.

mirror_slap,

It's all they've got left. It's the end-stage cancer, the result of a 30+ year media driven outrage machine. Roger Ailes, ironically, killed the GOP as a viable political party.

mirror_slap,

And the Dems are idiots about gun safety anyway. Let them have all the AR-15s they want, just don't allow magazines- force hand reloading when the thing is empty. Don't ban handguns, ban handguns with magazines. Slap insurance and license requirements on owners. Don't take them away, just make them far less deadly and far more expensive. That side-steps the "take away your guns" crowd entirely and passes the court challenges too.

Why are conversations on Reddit often so hostile and toxic now days?

Reddit used to be a great platform to discuss some topic and get different points of few in a friendly but factual manner. However, slowly it seems like the platform has become a lot more like Facebook, where it's been invaded by toxic people that are constantly looking for opportunities to shit and hate on others....

mirror_slap,

For me, it just depends on the subreddits. The bigger ones naturally include more a-holes. Over 11 years on there, it did get worse over time. On the big subreddits I simply read the headlines and ignored comments. Smaller subreddits were where I spent my time, typically helping people with medical advice, camera advice, computer, etc. Humans in large groups are stupid, so I just never thought much of it I guess.

Tumour immune rejection triggered by activation of α2-adrenergic receptors - Nature (www.nature.com)

Layman's explanation: This sounds like it could a huge step forward in fighting cancer! While this result is bound to only be applicable and practical for a subset of tumors, it gives rise to the possibility of a new or existing drug that can weaken tumors and make them easier to fight....

mirror_slap,

This sounds like something people in high risk groups may be able to take as a prophylactic. For example women with the breast cancer gene.
