I've sideloaded a patched version of Apollo on my phone and it's been a nicer experience (though it has limitations obviously). I am certain it will get revoked eventually. But it's the best option for me right now. There is a way to patch Android APKs. Not sure if I should share since it technically involves a form of piracy. But if you google it, it's definitely doable.
Sync and Boost were my favorite Android Reddit clients. I always preferred Apollo and being back on iOS, but they are great in their own right. But I paid for premium for both Sync and Boost for a reason. They were so feature complete and were the closest thing I could get to Apollo on Android.
I've been lurking on old.reddit.com and I've seen a lot of people who are upset about the protesting. They are calling it childish, they are calling protesters white knights, etc. If you go on r/JustUnsubbed you can see a bunch of people whining about it. But it really just shows people don't get it nor do they care to. They just care about being mildly inconvenienced.
Firefox on MacOS. I really believe in Mozilla as a company. uBlock Origin is one of the better ad blockers you can find. Safari is a bit easier on battery life though.
It was the first real experience I ever had playing a game that was 3D. I was pretty young and didn't know what I was doing. But I thought it was so cool.
Tomorrow at 1pm EST is Microsoft's summer game showcase. Anyone have any bold predictions? Praying for something that has likely no chance of being shown?...
I like Avowed's chances of showing up. I remember being really interested in the original CGI trailer back when it was announced. I think Fable is now considered likely. I think we'll see a STALKER 2 update.
For my Metroidvania homies, I hope Silksong finally gets a proper release date.
I would have made an ES6 prediction, but their statements about first party trailers not being exclusively CGI have me doubtful.
Actual bold prediction: Gears 6 or Bioshock make an appearance.
I think if they had been straight up with their intentions and gave 3rd party devs time to adjust, gave them jobs/roles to improve their application. Or literally express themselves in any other way about their plans. I really honestly think that people would have been less pissed. But they decided to be secretive and dishonest about their intentions. I feel like Spez is a sitting duck who will get plucked off the moment the company goes public regardless. The fact that Reddit as he has publicly stated is not profitable now and never has been is quite damning. Investors are not going to like that. And will not willingly invest into a company that will not make them money.
I don't see them backtracking regardless of what happens with spez but they could have been more honest from the forefront. It still would have sucked. People would have probably still moved on. But there would be less animosity towards the suits in charge right now.
This doesn't shock me. NVIDIA really saw the pricing for the resale market for GPUs and said "we can charge this too"
No, you really can't. Also, a lot more people anecdotally aren't super aggressive with upgrades anymore. People are getting so much use out of their electronics that there really is no need to upgrade for most people unless something breaks.
I'm not trying to convince anyone to go back i promise, quite the contrary actually cause I think spez plans to just decrease the cost of the API and act like it was a bargain deal sacrifice while not solving any of the issues at all...
I would like to see spez step down as CEO and have a formal apology to the 3rd party devs affected by the API pricing change, especially to Christian over the repeated attempts to slander his reputation and outright lie about him and his app (Apollo). I would like them to make the price more reasonable if they wish to continue charging for the API. I would also want them to make the grace period a lot longer (12+ months) to give 3rd party apps a chance to adjust. I also want them to not pursue going public. From what I saw, devs had no issues paying. But the pricing is just to price out 3rd-party apps from existing.
That being said, I think there is no way in hell any of this happens. It would take a literal miracle for any of these things to happen. And I just have a hard time seeing them doing the right thing.
I think they will do it. But I think it will be to incentivize users to get the 3rd game on whatever PlayStation platform is out by then. I only have uncertainty about it being the PS5 because it most likely would not come out until what? 2028? Microsoft themselves admitted in disclosures in the ActiBlizz acquisition that they anticipate next gen hardware coming in 2028. So PS6? Maybe?
That's why no one with half a brain downloads the official Reddit app. (lemmy.world)
