Am I the only one who thinks is just one giant mess in which almost everything gets lost in the noise. How did we come to this situation where everyone relies on this single, centralized chat service?

@delegatevoid There are plenty of options when you don't focus squarely on mainstream.

Just like "everyone" relies on Twitter/The Facebook/Instagram/YouTube when nothing actually says you need to use those specific services at all :)

@delegatevoid But to the first question: No, Discord definitely is a mess. Prolonged exposure not recommended.

@AngryAnt yes, like .chat or even , but more and more open source projects, including rely on which is not accessible for a very very large part of the human population....

@delegatevoid An open source project with only a Discord server is as pathetic as one with bug reporting, discussion, and issue tracking only on The Facebook.

I don't think that is as much an indicator of service convergence as it is of deteriorating quality of project administration.

@AngryAnt it's frustrating :D

@delegatevoid 100%. And a major disservice to the project.

Everyone involved at a core level should already be keenly aware of Matrix, with its sea of bridges to other services like Discord, Slack, IRC, The Facebook, Signal, whatever.

Choosing a closed platform in the face of that is just sad.

@AngryAnt Can't get on Matrix here, blocked by DPI.

@AngryAnt@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@delegatevoid DPI? Something is blocking an entire federated network?

delegatevoid,
@delegatevoid@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@AngryAnt Deep Packet Inspection, as soon as it looks like a certain protocol it gets blocked.
Sometimes you can get lucky, it'll work for 20 minutes and then... finished. Right now the only thing that works consistently is delta, since it just uses imap/smtp which is not something anyone wants to block if they want to remain economically relevant.
