On a personal note as a disabled person who faces regular discrimination, and while the UN continues to cite the UK for human rights violations, this is disappointing but not at all surprising, just another example of how little Tory Light Labour care about the people they claim to represent (full on Tories don't care either, of course, but they don't pretend to either).

Our system serves the rich and privileged, and it is our system that needs replacing, not the tokens who sit at the head of it.

I mean the public. Not a single question from the public came from a remainer.

mannycalavera,
mannycalavera avatar

That was the whole point of the show. Fiona (the presenter) made this quite clear in the introduction. It was a broad cross section of political voters (Labour / Conservative) as is always the case with Question Time but they all voted to leave in 2016. The show was a special to see how their opinion had changed if at all.

I'm sorry, have you watched the show? This was made clear.

PabloDiscobar,
PabloDiscobar avatar

Yes, I watched it, 70/20/10 blabla, I got it. Is it an excuse? All I see is the BBC not voicing the opinion of the remainers. You can make a public made of 100% of remainers, and ask them if they have changed their opinion, why not? Right?

mannycalavera,
mannycalavera avatar

Mate, they have opinions of remainers on every Question Time and have done for years what are you talking about? This was a special one off version of the show to guage how well Brexitiers think it has gone on the anniversary of the vote. It would be a pretty short show of they did they same thing for remainers.

Welcome to this special Question Time where we ask people who voted remain what they think of Brexit. Let's go to our first audience member.

It is shit.

Thanks for watching see you next week.

WouldYouLikeAnyToast,

This was a special one off version of the show to guage how well Brexitiers think it has gone on the anniversary of the vote.

That sounds fine in principle, however I would wager that most people wouldn't turn around and admit that they inflicted harm on the country by voting for Brexit on national TV

mannycalavera,
mannycalavera avatar

Well... there were plenty of people that sai they voted to leave. Although they admitted the Brexit we're in now wasn't what they had imagined.

danielholt,
danielholt avatar

I'm also not sure many would care. And I don't mean that to sound like they're selfish. A not insignificant number of people voted for Brexit as a means of punching the establishment in the mouth, the same establishment that had so obviously failed them in recent decades.

They were ignored and poor before, now they're still poor but at least they've been listened to.

What does this even mean?

PabloDiscobar,
PabloDiscobar avatar

Of couse I am interested in the show. I followed the brexit campaign very closely.

I'm fascinated by the fact that the BBC dare to broadcast a question time without any remainer. That's very eloquent.

What does this even mean?

I already told you in the previous post:

You can make a public made of 100% of remainers, and ask them if they have changed their opinion

Remainers are people and people can change their mind.

Are you reading? Because I sense a lot of anger and I'm not sure that you read what people write.

edit: ooooh, I see in the activity of the thread that you are the one who downvoted it.

mannycalavera,
mannycalavera avatar

I downvoted it because it was pretty clear you didn't want a sensible discussion on the show. I still don't think you do.

It was very clear what the show was about and why it was commissioned. Your faux outrage at the BBC just sounds like crank conspiracy. I'm sorry to say it sounds like you just want to poke fun of people that voted to leave without listening to why it was they did, which is pretty sad.

Anyway, good day to you. I don't think we're getting anywhere with this.

PabloDiscobar,

I have followed the coverage of the BBC about the subject and like many others I noticed the bias of the BBC against remain. All I see here is the continuation of the posture of the BBC.

It was very clear what the show was about and why it was commissioned. Your faux outrage at the BBC just sounds like crank conspiracy.

There is no conspiracy, the BBC has lost its prestige a long time ago.

I'm sorry to say it sounds like you just want to poke fun of people that voted to leave without listening to why it was they did, which is pretty sad.

We know why they voted leave, sovereignty and foreigners out. They said it themselves. It seems to me that you are the one who did not watch the show. Anyway, you spent all time time talking about me and you clearly have no intention to talk about politics. Have a nice evening.

WouldYouLikeAnyToast, in Question Time Brexit Special: "We haven't started Brexit yet, when is it gonna start?"

I genuinely couldn't believe some of what was said on that special. There were some people that geniunely appeared to be deluded. In particular, the Brexit Party panel member who appeared to want to have a hard border between Ireland and Northern Ireland.

ktuser, in Bank Rate increased to 5% - June 2023

Not good if you are on a mortgage or have loans to repay.
There is talk of the rate going up to 6% by year end.
Anybody whose mortgage or loan term is coming up for renewal within the next 1 year is going to get a huge increase in the repayable rate
Buy to let landlords will try and pass the additional cost off to tenants.
House prices will come down.
A disaster is waiting to happen.
Some renters will not pay an additional increase. New protection laws for renters will make it harder to evict tenants who are not paying.
Mortgagees may end up asking for a repayment holiday. Some may even be in negative equity and may hand the property back to the bank.

A lot to digest.

WouldYouLikeAnyToast,

TLDR had a decent video on this. Basically UK citizens used to spend less money on food than a lot of EU/comparable countries, in part due to the fact that our diet is worse and we eat more cheap processed food. We're now spending similar amounts on food as other countries.
