JaymesRS, in Hollow Kingdom by Kira Jane Buxton (Hollow Kingdom #1) - $2.99

I really enjoyed this. The premise is that only animals have survived the zombie apocalypse, and what happens to the pets locked in houses, the zoo animals in the wrong areas, the wild animals, the animals used in science or product testing? This is told from their perspective and is pretty witty.

It would work for square 5A as it was her Debut work.

JaymesRS, in On Stranger Tides by Tim Powers - $1.99

The book is so much better than the Pirates adaptation. I was looking for fantasy books a few years ago that didn’t have such a Eurocentric setting and stumbled across this. I liked Tim Powers so I read it and enjoyed it tremendously.

JaymesRS, in The Princess Bride: An Illustrated Edition of S. Morgenstern's Classic Tale of True Love and High Adventure by William Goldman -$1.99

This book is fantastic, it’s got “Fencing. Fighting. Torture. Poison. True love. Hate. Revenge. Giants. Hunters. Bad men. Good men. Beautifulest ladies. Snakes. Spiders. Beasts of all natures and descriptions. Pain. Death. Brave men. Coward men. Strongest men. Chases. Escapes. Lies. Truths. Passion. Miracles.”

If you love the movie, this book is the movie ramped up your 11.

yessikg, in Eragon by Christopher Paolini (Inheritance Cycle #1) - $2.99

I’m in the minority but I didn’t like this book

WarlockLawyer, in The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison (The Chronicles of Osreth #1) - $2.99

One of my favorite books in recent years. Wonderful deal

Rampsquatch, in Eragon by Christopher Paolini (Inheritance Cycle #1) - $2.99

Really enjoyed this book, it’s a shame nobody ever made a movie for it. For the best probably, it would have been a train wreck knowing Hollywood.

There is no Eragon movie in ba sing se.

JaymesRS, in Eragon by Christopher Paolini (Inheritance Cycle #1) - $2.99

Is it super cliche and tropey? 100%. Is it still a fun story? Absolutely.

It’s much less cliche and tropey by the end too

JaymesRS, in The Bourne Identity by Robert Ludlum (Jason Bourne #1) - $2.99

There is probably 10% of this book that made it into the movie. I thoroughly enjoy both in their own right.

JaymesRS, in Ishmael by Daniel Quinn (Ishmael series #1) - $1.99

It’s rare, but occasionally you stumble across a book that fundamentally changes the way you think. Ishmael was one of those for me.

JaymesRS, in The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison (The Chronicles of Osreth #1) - $2.99

This was a fun book that is a bit of a challenge to read with a purpose. The main character is an incredibly minor son of the emperor and never expected to be anywhere near the throne. But through an accident he is suddenly the next in line and needs to become the new emperor and needs now to understand a ton of court machinations and players and it’s that information dump that the author purposely throws on you same as it’s being thrown on the new emperor to keep you as overwhelmed feeling.

JaymesRS, in What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher (Sworn Soldier #1) - $2.99

T. Kingfisher is one of the more recent authors that joined the list of people I read first. She does 2 styles of fiction for older readers (she also does YA as Ursula Vernon), Horror and Fantasy (often but not always Romantasy). And they are both really well written and enjoyable.

JaymesRS, in The Redemption of Althalus by David & Leigh Eddings - $1.99

The Eddings were pretty solid worldbuilders, their main story-telling problem is that they liked to essentially rehash the same story in new worlds.

That said, The Redemption of Althalus is probably the best and tightest version of that story. It’s one of my favorites.

CodingCarpenter, in Hounded (The Iron Druid Chronicles #1) by Kevin Hearne - $1.99

Decent story but the power creep is way too ramped up

JaymesRS, in Hounded (The Iron Druid Chronicles #1) by Kevin Hearne - $1.99

Solid urban fantasy in the style of Dresden Files or Rivers of London, but he’s a “modern day” Druid instead of a wizard

MermaidsGarden, in The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V. E. Schwab - $1.99

I’ve got nothing but praise for this book. If you’re a fan of history or historical fiction, snap it up
