I am a fully blind person and I occasionally record playing video games with my friends....
I’m having a really weird issue with VoiceOver on iOS and I’ve decided not to stress out about it. I scheduled a phone call with Apple Support....
A few weeks ago I read The Dream Master, a scifi novel that deals with dreams and virtual reality that has a blind character in it. The portrayal of blindness was… not great, but something that struck me about it was that for a futuristic setting, it lacked imagination for what technology could look like for the blind. The...
Dealing with the same old questions from people who don’t get us was one of the hardest things about the other site. At one point, it was easier to create a rule against them, than it was to foster communication and awareness....
Hi everyone,...
Is there a way to set the default language and community on here please?...

Will accessibility tools that rely on automating input to the browser cause it to become untrusted? Will it affect extensions? The spec does currently specify a carveout for browser modifications and extensions, but those can make automating interactions with a website trivial. So, either the spec is useless or restrictions will...
As the r/Blind mod team announced on July 1st 2023, Reddit has made it impossible for blind people to moderate on mobile. We’re bringing you this post to update the community on the developments since that time....
pixelated r/blind Snoo and text with Reddit app logos below it and parts of fuck spez above it, p.d in a corner
I’ll keep this short, as I’m merely testing this Lemmy thing out, especially the accessibility compared to the way ReddIt used to work before their recent changes. I’m curious to know if there’s any accessibility gotchas I should be aware of before I get bitten… Thanks, and that’s all from me for now.
I am wondering if there’s a rapid way to switch between two voiceover voices. The only method I know involves going to settings-voiceover-speech-voices-scroll down etc. etc. etc., which is really too much. I’m thinking there must be an easier way, either using a customize rotor, or just telling Siri.
These guys fucked up their website, but I hope glasses are still good....
Looks like @MurdoMaclachlan, formerly a transcriber for r/TranscribersOfReddit, is occasionally doing freelance transcriptions on Lemmy in their spare time. This post directly hyperlinks the Lemmy community that Murdo looks to be using to aggregate all their transcriptions via comment permalinks....
Techquickie, a rather popular YouTube channel affiliated with Linus Tech Tips, posted this video today about the evolution of accessibility features in the video game industry. It covers a bit of the early history and rough starts in terms of lacking basic quality of life improvements, such a subtitles, to more modern and...
A little off topic for most of us here on RBlind but still worth posting for our instances Admins/Mods if no one else....
Would avoid anything on that server where possible until we hear an all clear...
Seems to have been released about a week ago. See apps.apple.com/us/app/voicevista/id6450388413
Wondering if anyone actually knows (that is, not just guessing) why RP causes decreased contrast in one’s remaining central vision. I asked my retina doc and got an obviously BS answer that cones can’t distinguish contrast as well as rods. I am not a fan of doctors who don’t have the phrase “I don’t know” in their...
Just as a reminder for those who are not aware, and for those who are, we operate a discord server, currently with over 600 members.
Relevant to a semi-recent conversation (don’t remember if here or Reddit) on data visualization.
Before the whole new transcription effort really starts going, I wanted to get some input from actual Blind and low-vision users to see like…what y’all actually want us to work on. Are there any particular Lemmy-specific accessibility problems we should be aware of? Additionally, for those of us independently transcribing...
Just thought I’d see how you all are doing, need to get some activity here or us mods will have nothing to do besides our normal real life shit and we don’t want that now do we?
I’ve got RP, but a decent amount of central vision. I can still see cars if I’m looking right at them, people walking right at me, usually find cross I’ve got RP, but a decent amount of central vision. I can still see cars if I’m looking right at them, people walking right at me, find crosswalks, that sort of thing. But...
