Blind hive mind, I wonder what the proper name for German film is, as in that plastic film that you draw on to create tactile images. It just seems to be known at least in the UK as German film, which surely can't be what it's actually called.

oskar_mbr,

@KaraLG84 @mastoblind Maybe Schwellpapier - for simple and relatively inexpensive production of tactile graphics. There is a thermoplastic PVC layer on a carrier paper. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schwellpapier

@oskar_mbr @mastoblind Close, but you don't heat up German film. It just works.

@KaraLG84 @mastoblind It's called Plastic Embossing Film. How the name German Film came about I forget, but I assume it was invented in that country.

@KaraLG84 @mastoblind Jesus that takes me back. In addition to any other names, I'm curious how the phrase "German Film" came about.

@jscholes @mastoblind I reckon it was someone that couldn't pronounce whatever the German name for it is, and somehow that spread. I had a tool for drawing on it as well that came with various tips for different textures and whatnot. I have no idea what that was called either.

@KaraLG84 @mastoblind I thought it was called thermal paper.
