So I just used Google's #Bard#chatbot for the first time. #School and #education are now completely different for our kids. We're going to need to change the ENTIRE system immediately. I just had Bard create a 5 paragraph, cited report about the Great Pyramid -- something that took my 6th grader two weeks to research and write -- and it's perfect. Took 5 minutes for me to figure out how to use and prompt it to get what I was looking for: a way better version of what he will be turning in. The traditional #English and/or #Writing coursework should be considered dead from a functional aptitude perspective. Those subjects should be associated/grouped with #art electives. Take that time in #class and dedicate all of it to teaching them about how the #internet and #ai works.
@peterbutler Let's come back to this in 5 years - original thinking still matters, yes. We need to be able to guide the tools. But the original writing will turn into editing. We can put our own style on any of these outputs, but we'll never be able to keep pace with the machines when it comes to initial creation.
@Staines we might not be able to “keep pace” with robust chatbots, but I think we still need to teach the fundamentals of reading, interpreting, and drafting original opinions
In five years our information commons will be ruined and LLM will be unable to upgrade or will be poisoned by their own crap and therefore increasingly useless.
