With the growth in popularity of working from home and the subsequent predicted collapse of commercial real estate rents, I wonder if the trend of skyrocketing housing prices in cities will relax. I really hope so!
although i admit that i use a "for men" body wash from Method because I like the scent, that's really the only reason. (it's a cedar scent or something like that). it doesn't come in some ridiculous packaging or anything, and I have been happy to use fruity-smelling body washes in the past without fear of my balls suddenly falling off because of the fruitiness or because my facewash smells like a windswept field of grass (if that's even a smell). i just happened to like the smell and am secure enough to know that doesn't have anything to do with my masculinity.
but this trend of overly-gendering products for no apparent reason is pretty silly, and this video does a good job of illustrating exactly how silly that is. it's also kind of a funny video.
I don't get why they can't just say what scent it is and let people make their own choice.
Scents with gender is a really weird and unnecessary thing in general. Why are male fragrances called cologne and female fragrances called perfume? They smell pretty much the goddamn same and have the same production process!
he touches on that in the video: because men have fragile egos which need to be coddled and reassured that anything short of being encrusted in mud a shit all day isn't somehow [looks around nervously]... ^"gay"^.
women, in fact, don't like to be marketed to in this way due to the association with what they consider to be negative gender stereotypes.
If they just SAID the scent, then the marketing teams would have nothing to do!
No, you can't say "Vertiver and Ylang-Ylang" you have to say "Ocean Breeze", you can't say "Cedar, Sage, and Bergamot", you need to say "WOODSMAN MASCULINE TESTOSTERONE"
This bugs me. All these fucking fishers are like "My family has been fishing for thousands of years, how dare you take away my way of life".
It's like, oh? Really? Your parents in their medieval ship were doing industrial-scale trawling?
Ditto with farmers. I simply do not believe you when you say that highly mechanized mass agriculture with heavy overuse of modern fertilizers is something that's been in your family for tens of generations. Fuck outta here.
