1 million customers are without power in Texas as Dallas and Houston get slammed with destructive storms | CNN (edition.cnn.com)

More than a million customers in Texas were without power Tuesday as powerful storms delivered another round of violent weather to the state still reeling from an almost unrelenting parade of destructive and deadly storms in recent weeks....

For these events it’s people not keeping their trees trimmed and away from power lines. Nevermind Oncor refuses to bury the lines because the upfront costs are too expensive.

The outages we saw last year because demand outpaced supply was definitely because we have a shitty power grid.

Gotta keep voting for progressives until it’s liberals vs progressives in the national election. Then we might start seeing some meaningful change.

At least it’s not completely shut down like it was under your boy Trump’s presidency.

We got tax breaks for the rich and a handout to business owners while the rest of us got a couple extra paychecks for all that time things were shut down. This was all because we had our pandemic response plan killed by Trump because Obama had put it together. We also didn’t bother taking a hard stance on border crossings like New Zealand did early in the pandemic even in easy areas to do it like Hawaii.

The Covid pandemic response was 100% on Trump and his buddies.

“Compostable plastic” (that needs an industrial sized composter with heat regulation to fully degrade and isn’t available everywhere)

Carbon tax, it was proposed so many years ago and it’s always been a good idea.

Can I side load the Linux distribution of choice?

Ron DeSantis' new target in his 'war on woke'? Colors, apparently (www.msnbc.com)

As part of DeSantis’ “Freedom Summer” initiative, the state’s transportation secretary, Jared W. Perdue, announced earlier this month that bridges in the state will have no choice but to be illuminated in red, white and blue from Memorial Day through Labor Day....

Work and live in another country is actually pretty darn good advice if you can get out of this shit hole.

17 year olds have a diminished capacity to understand and anticipate long term consequences compared to 25+ year olds. In the moment he may not have cared about “the rules”.

On May 2,[a] 2011, Osama bin Laden, the founder and first leader of the Islamist militant group al-Qaeda, was shot and killed at his compound in the Pakistani city of Abbottabad by United States Navy SEALs of SEAL Team Six (also known as DEVGRU).[1] en.m.wikipedia.org/…/Killing_of_Osama_bin_Laden#:…

Maybe he was in Afghanistan during some of that time period, but he was pretty comfortable in Pakistan.

If you don’t want the rule of law to deliver justice, then you get the alternative which is people taking justice into their own hands. This is a poor decision by Abbott and Texas Republicans as well as their supporters.

I just want my routines back on Google Assistant, I want to hear my news show in the morning, I want to hear the weather report, I want reminders on my schedule, I don’t use the AI more than I used Assistant.

I'm so sick of every single medical-related question people have online constantly getting spammed with 'talk to your doctor!!!!'

The way people online constantly say ‘talk to your doctor’ like it’s a panacea is a lot like how medieval peasants weren’t able to read scripture and they just had to trust their clergy’s interpretations...

If you know your diagnosis, you can certainly look up standard of care treatments, prognosis, stats about the disease, and other really good information. The CDC has a really good website for looking up a lot of that stuff, as does the NIH, StatPearls, and a few others. If you have access to a university health library then you now have access to things like ClinicalKey, Ovid, Taylor and Francis, etc. that provide even more information, and if you’re working for part of a hospital system you likely have access to UpToDate which residents, fellows, and attending doctors will pull up if they’re unfamiliar with a treatment/disease. Heck even Wikipedia has some really good articles and the source list if you know what you’re looking for.

But you don’t know what you’re looking for, you have a set of symptoms that need an MD, DO, PA, NP to diagnose and treat.
