Curious what I spent on the PSA Oxygen Concentrator project?

So was I! So I made a spreadsheet! With links and everything!

Looks like I came in right around $1300 (not counting a few tools here and there and not counting the hand-truck I commandeered)

That's about the same as a reconditioned 10LPM concentrator from Mountain Glass (and mine is all new components, designed to be repairable, and does about twice the capacity of O2)

I also didn't count shipping, because it depends on where you are. Also, if you're not a shut-in, you can probably buy some of this stuff locally.

That seems like it'll work. And that's not even close to maxing out the oxygen.

Just need to get a propane bottle, pressure test the manifold, and it's ready for service!

Hell yeah, it's Trans Rigs Day.
The Drawfee crew are driving across every state currently available in American Truck Simulator on stream to raise money for Trans Lifeline. It was a blast last year, and I look forward to having it on today.

EDIT: They raised like $170k. It was awesome.

I have extremely dangerous copy and paste hotkeys on my mouse and the funniest thing is when I bump my mouse into my keyboard and accidentally paste into a chat window.

Very nearly sent my partner "calcium carbonate" with no context

love everyone at exok and find celeste64 extremely charming but I would like to say one (1) slur please to whoever made this cassette stage.

3D gameplay of a character jumping between falling blocks to collect coins. Once all coins are collected, the character collects a strawberry to win the stage.

I want her to move like Mario so badly, but she doesn't and I don't like that.

They did give her a side-flip-style jump like Mario, though. This is just way too much air control.

That said, if you haven't played Celeste 64, you should give it a shot.

And you should also play the inverse game Celestio 64

"This is a robot designed to collect grant money. It is the minimum viable compromise of a postgrad's proposal. Research has proven that it will provide a career for its design team for at least a year. Its novel and incredibly impractical mechanism is interesting to think about but barely works in practice. One day, robots like this may be used in the medical field, I mean, it's as likely as anything else. Like and Subscribe."

I've been thinking about a rig to let me test VFD construction techniques without having to make a sealed device every time and I've come up with this: A cheap KF16 feedthrough made from PEEK with steel wire through it, pot sealed with Hysol 1C. Stick that on the end of a glass tube and put that on the vacuum rig. A tiny vacuum chamber.

Me: "I do worry a lot about whether I'm breathing correctly, or getting enough oxygen, or if the air is good... but I can often overcome that with a pulse-ox. That's my security blanket when I'm having a bad day, I just wear the little lanyard so I can check my O2Sat whenever..."

Therapist: "That's a good strategy, that works?"

Me: ... It's not perfect because there are forms of poisoning where the problem isn't respiratory, it's an aerobic metabolism issue, so the blood's oxygenated, it just can't be used and the pulse-ox, you know, photoplethysmography is just a form of IR spectroscopy and it can't resolve a structural problem with the blood cells, the adsorption spectrum is the same so... but yeah, mostly I can convince myself not to worry about it.

(long pause)

Therapist: ...see this is where I'm suspecting OCD

@kwf The only one I know for sure is like this is cyanide, so probably not.

It is fucking terrifying, though, right?

Printed a nice little bracket for an hour meter to put on the oxygen machine. I did make it slightly too tight, and it cracked, but it's fine. It'll last this way a long time.

My 1/4" ball valves arrived closed, and when I opened each one for the first time, some trapped pressure was released from inside the ball gate. I'm not at a particularly high altitude, so that explanation seems unlikely. Does this imply that they were all tested on a compressed air manifold before packaging? I'd be impressed at like $3.50 a piece. Anyway, it was fun to do my Steve1989MREInfo impression every time I cracked a new valve.

Parts are beginning to come in for the torch manifold!

The two rows of parts here represent the oxy and fuel manifolds respectively from left to right. The fuel manifold has a pair of needle valves for Bunsen burners. I'm going to use cheap aluminum compressed air manifolds to tie everything together. The outlets are only 1.5" apart, so I'll use short pipe nipples to stand off alternating valves so that they're staggered as shown.

@North@chaos.social avatar

I'm pretty happy with the manifold so far. Waiting for some 3D-printed brackets to mount everything.
