Last night's storm took out my internet (I assume the same storm that hit Houston earlier in the day) and now I'm sitting at my computer reading previously downloaded files and staring forlornly at web pages that won't load.

It always amazes me how much on a modern computer doesn't work, or doesn't work quite right, in the absence of internet. We've come a long way from "going online" being an activity separate and apart from "using the computer."

Absolutely. Even ten years ago it would have been bananas for there to be dynamic content in the Start menu that requires connectivity.

I would imagine people on metered connections don't love the change(s).

I'm with you, I've thrown completionism to the wind. If I can stay up on one or two, I'm happy. I enjoyed Castro (iOS app) for that purpose because it uses an "inbox" and "queue" metaphor, but have returned to Overcast and just mass delete once in a while.
