Me: I'm not going to answer the strange kid yelling HI repeatedly from the neighboring porch. Just. Not.

I'm not the rude one in this situation. Teach your kids not to make a scene or demand attention.

When some new eager contributor appears in a social setting, a few people give praise even if the content is really not special, even if it's outright BAD.

To say nice things about mediocre stuff is acceptable and lauded. However, to express a modicum of dislike is not. So, we end up with... enshittification of a podcast, forum, website, feed, etc.. This is a biased, bad system.

This is outrageous. Typical for these self described “moral” religious activists. Liars, bribers and cheats. And they will continue to get away with it because of our ridiculous deference to Judeo-Christian philosophy in the US.

Waiting for my kid to come in on a plane with her dog. It's a long drive, then, to pick her up. I'm a bundle of nerves. I hate waiting, don't know what to do with myself. The best laid plans means we're safe at home by around 9:30 tonight.

Back home. 45 min later than expected but no real troubles. Puppers is chillin’ in his home away from home.

But it's all I can do. I try my best.

People who set off backyard fireworks on are idiots who think it's appropriate to honor military personnel who died by blowing things up.

@realTuckFrumper It's lazy to have a news story composed almost entirely of Tweets. Embarrassing on both sides.

Wonky photo but newly volunteered foxglove is outrageous!
Planted in 2016 or so. Bloomed a second year-then disappeared.
Now it's back. About 3 feet tall.
And PINK!!

Gave up Google search for Duck Duck and the web looks way different.

idoubtit,
@idoubtit@mstdn.social avatar

@zoomar I found the DDG returned the exact same results as Bing. When I was looking for news, I got almost all MSN syndicated stories. So I quit using it. I can't find any really good search engine.

@idoubtit@mstdn.social avatar

@zoomar I've discovered a Google workaround that people have been promoting. It does work. https://www.cnet.com/tech/services-and-software/google-search-without-ads-or-ai-how-to-get-just-links-in-your-results/

I get annoyed when people use anachronistic examples to lend support to their dubious claims.

The coelacanth and platypus were not #Cryptids because the concept didn't exist yet. Rocks falling from the sky was not #Fortean phenomenon before they were called meteorites.

Times change. Precise definitions matter. Don't cheat when you have lousy evidence.

I feel a bit smug for having dropped the New York Times and Washington Post from my resource list several years ago when it was obvious how awful they were. Confused that people keep consuming garbage for so long. Probably same people still on Xitter. Discernment matters.

I had 44 books tagged on a list to read in Libby. Now, almost half are no longer available, which is confusing. Meanwhile, I can’t pick from the rest because I really need something good, I can’t take something sad or anxiety-producing right now.

car inspections are a racket. They wanted to charge me $28 to replace the inspection sticker after a windshield replacement. People buy stickers and bypass inspections for less than that.

Notable, there was no photo taken of the site where it was found. If it’s heavy, it should have left a gouge in the ground. I’m skeptical that it fell unless the news reporting left out important details (which is typical - they never ask the right questions)

Searching archetypes for middle-aged women that don’t fall back into their relationship to family (mother, caretaker, wife).

I can think of things related to profession, but they all skew to men or young women. There are lots of interesting ones for older women around the corner.

But in the middle? I can’t think of them. Any ideas?

@bomkatt For me, middle management. Everyone else is either retiring or too young and knows nothing.
