shalafi,

Pensacola in Godzilla. LOL, no. It’s nowhere neat that large and lit up. They made it look like a major port city. Well, it’s a port city all right.

shalafi,

Strongly disagree. I find any breast over the small end of average to be flat out gross. So I’m shallow? Won’t date anyone with a penis either, so I guess I’m a homophobe?

So to be a decent person I must date people with a feature that turns me completely off? Can I date you to get started?

shalafi,

All spot on!

Story: Some idiot company is trying to sell these things.

Lemmy: LOL, cops are idiots!

Who says anyone is purchasing this?!

Workers at TJ Maxx and Marshalls are wearing police-like body cameras. Here’s how it’s going (www.cnn.com)

Retail chains like TJX, the parent company of TJ Maxx and Marshalls, are equipping some store employees with body cameras to deter shoplifting and improve safety. This is part of a growing trend in the retail industry, as stores respond to an increase in organized retail theft and violence against workers. However, some...

shalafi,

reduce your prices to being affordable again

Uh, they don’t get much cheaper in the new clothing market. If you want even cheaper than the cheapest, learn to thrift and repair.

shalafi,

And who is going to pay who for watching all that video?

shalafi,

There’s always been a 2-tier system, through all nations and all times.

One of my favorite parts of Noble House, set in 1840s Hong Kong, was a Chinese guy disgusted with the English notion of “equal under the law”. “Of course there are different laws for the rich and poor! Why else would I strive to be rich?!”

I think on that now and again.

shalafi,

Like a real crime boss, Trump never, ever dumps on family. No one else is safe, but the wife and kids are sacrosanct.

Now that I think on it, the man does indeed seem to have a single moral. How odd I’m just now seeing it.

shalafi, (edited )

The pardon is a last-ditch effort at justice. I’m fine with it.

POTUS can only waive off on federal crimes, the states still have hold on their own convictions. And even then, the governor can pardon.

Even if abused now and again, it’s still good for the broader system.

shalafi,

You don’t have much outdoor experience I guess? I see so many comments like yours.

“I have no experience with this. DEATH TRAP!”

Go outside. Take some risks. Live life.

shalafi,

Aight. I’m fine with this. Fine. But I’m going to need an excuse, anything at all will do, I’ll take it.

“Nuh uh!”, said Senate Republicans.

FFS, who is this to appeal to? I’ve met anti-abortion people, seen 'em. I’ve never talked to a human in life that was against all contraception, not even religious nuts.

shalafi,

Yep. This and Boeing. It’s astonishing how easily manipulated our view of reality is, and it’s all because we can’t tell what’s a real risk and what’s not. Humans are stupid at assessing risk in today’s enormous world, we just did not evolve for it.

For example, people think getting randomly shot, murdered or raped is likely. Half of gun deaths are suicides and the vast majority of the remainder are bad people in bad places. The vast majority of rapes and murders are by someone known to the victim. (That’s not victim blaming, only saying such violence doesn’t often come out of the clear blue sky.)

OTOH, getting smeared to death on the road is truly random. Yet we all happily jump in our cars, roll hard down the interstate and think nothing of it. The news doesn’t harp on it, that sort of death is understood, nothing sexy to report.

shalafi,

I was gonna say, these places are 1/40th of a pixel on the map, but those are some sizeable acreages! Pleasant surprise.

And think of the cost savings on maintaining all that land.

shalafi,

We pay our city councilmen $6,000/yr. The “big” city of which we’re a suburb pays them $27,000.

shalafi,

In no way do I condone his actions, so let’s start with that. Coulda, shoulda, whatever, is not what his trial was about.

Given the video evidence presented, he shot in self-defense. Given Washington state’s law regarding self-defense, he shot in self-defense. Not going to replay it all, you can see for yourself.

All in all, it was a clusterfuck of biblical proportions. “Should have never happened.”, isn’t a legal doctrine. “He went looking for trouble and found it.”, isn’t a thing.

As to why we’re still talking about this little maggot? Fuck if I know. I’d be the first to punch him in his fat face. I would happily spend the weekend in jail and lose on a battery charge.

shalafi,

Got my kids back for the summer, first time since they got phones (9 and 11-yo). They’re hooked through the fucking bag. And that’s with their mom having severely limiting their screen time.

If I so much as threaten to take their phones, they act exactly like an addict having their stash stolen. If a literal demon jumped out the phone, grabbed them by the neck and punched them in face, they’d go right back on the screen.

I listen in, and it’s all high-pitched chatter at 100mph, randomly switching topics and formats. If the internet has fried my brain at 53, god knows what it’s doing to them.

shalafi,

I see people saying their vote doesn’t matter when they’re in a highly partisan district, which is most of them.

News flash: Even the dumbest politicians can look at arithmetic. If they see their margins shrinking, they’ll adjust. Or go full retard and double-down. And then get a worse beating.

With trial done, Trump’s Georgia case gets October news (www.msnbc.com)

“we learned Monday that the state appeals court has tentatively set an Oct. 4 hearing date on the defense attempt to remove Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis from Trump’s state election interference case. The trial judge, Scott McAfee, said in March that Willis could stay on the case if her special prosecutor...

shalafi,

I want to know how being around guns is supposed to work with the Secret Service. Had a buddy go back in because his parole officer made a surprise visit and, unknown to him, his buddy had stuck a pistol in the sofa. Straight back to prison.

I’m sure the judge can make an exception, unless that sort of thing is a statute?

shalafi,

Yeah, I can’t do that. As little as I drive, they would last longer, but still. I’ll be retired or close enough in 12-years, won’t be able to afford a fresh battery. My ICE convertible and truck are 02 and 04 models and run fine.

Knowing there’s a hard limit on usage, with a wildly expensive repair at the end, that’s tough to swallow. I can keep my 04 F150 running forever. (For certain values of forever.)

shalafi,

The bite like wolfies? Because I had one hit me like when bee sting when I scared her up.

shalafi,

Lot of people loved Marcos Sr., my wife grew up under him. She says he accomplished much. She goes off about the infrastructure improvements she saw as a kid and later as an adult. Roads, hospitals, education, the very things that make society work.

shalafi,

Anyone else notice how much less attention MTG and Boebert are getting? Their playbook seems played out.

shalafi,

The “both sides” argument is a cheap cop out to having a real talk.

Yes, the GOP is the primary obstruction, but the Democrats aren’t helping much either.

I vote D all the way down to dogcatcher, but I certainly don’t look to them to solve anything.

shalafi,

Then you will starve to death. Comments like this make it obvious who has and hasn’t driven through red states.
