Children with acute malnutrition have weakened immune systems and are at higher risk of dying from common childhood diseases. Those that survive could face lifelong growth and development challenges. They risk facing a future marked by illness, poor school results, and poverty with ripple effects across generations.
From the WHO on malnutrition in children. It looks like that’s a win-win in Netanyahu’s books. If they don’t die now, they will have severely impacted lives. So in 15-20 years we will hear how uneducated they are and incapable of taking care of themselves.
And everyone keeps arguing that massive continuous public protesting does nothing.
The only reason that anything is happening at the political level on this issue is the fact that thousands of young Americans were willing to risk their educational futures (and possibly their careers) in order to force politicians to act and actually do something about the the non-stop killing of civilians by a maniacal regime bent on destroying an entire people.
The real heroes are the students in American who forced the issue.
Again it was people who spoke up and made things happen … not politicians.
Hamas would free the women, elderly and wounded hostages it’s still holding in return for Israel’s release of hundreds of Palestinians held in its jails.
Pretty sure the only prisoners they have is maybe a handful of wounded IDF soldiers that were captured in Palestine at this point…
Gaza has no food, water, or medical supplies and Israel has spent 7 months flattening the entire region.
How were any hostages from 10/7 supposed to survive Israels bombing for 7 months?
And what happens when Israel says there has to be more hostages so they don’t have to do even the temp ceasefire?
Like, releasing hostages is permanent, the ceasefire is explicitly temporary, why not start the ceasefire first?
And that’s not even getting into how hostages are one thing, and invading military members who were captured while committing are two very different things that Biden and Israel are intentionally conflating.
A united and reinvigorated PLO operating from both the West Bank and Gaza would be the most likely way to realize an independent Palestinian state. The real question though remains about what to do with the Israeli state and occupiers. Any Palestinian state will be under constant threat from both individual Israeli terrorists and terror organizations like the IDF, many of which have effectively settled in the West Bank. There would likely need to be some UN-backed peacekeeping operation to safeguard Palestine even with full recognition of independence.
that’s rather realistic - even if they were to design and construct floating piers (as was done for the D-day prep in the 1940s), it would take several months to build - if they started today. the unfortunate reality is that not only are they not starting today, it will take several weeks (or more) of political wrangling to get funding for a project list this, then a bid process has to occur. once a contractor is chosen the process starts.
there may be a port constructed but it will far, far too late to help anyone (except perhaps Israel, who will have already expanded to that area).
Here is what baffles me: how is Hamas still making demands? They are getting stomped ,their people suffer indescribable pain and they are still setting deadlines? The fuck?
Israel using starvation as a weapon of war is disgusting barbaric and inhumane. Why are you blaming Hamas for israel’s Genocide?
So far israel has not killed any significant leading Hamas figure except for the head of the police which was escorting food to north-Gaza. In no way are they getting stomped.
Because I think hamas is a shitty organization and they do not care about Palestinians. They did attack Israel, fully knowing that right wing Netanyahu would retaliate, because he has so many internal problems that an external enemy is all he needs. both don’t give a shit about their respective civilians, both want to stay in power while trying to manipulate public opinion.
"Getting stomped" is Israeli propaganda; they're still engaged in urban warfare in occupied Gaza, but that aside:
Because without a permanent ceasefire none of this shit is gonna stop. Israel has been very clear they're gonna invade Rafah either way (not that they can be believed either way, but they didn't even try to lie), so unless someone prevents them from doing that negotiations are meaningless.
The death of many Palestinians is completely acceptable to them, in fact it’s their strategy towards reaching their goal of the destruction of Israel. I understand wanting a ceasefire, I don’t understand thinking it will last.
