As a fan of the wheel of time show I've started reading the books. I've just finished book 3. For each book I've written a somewhat ranty review with my thoughts comparing the show. Links to posts below ... they're written on lemmy (which has a wot community you might be interested in)
TLDR: books 1-3 are so-so and the show is even better as an adaptation of them.
@maegul I call the first three books the series prologue. Reading your thoughts on book 3, I think the narrative changes in the way you want. Now that Rand is proclaimed the Dragon Reborn, the story shifts focus to follow other characters a whole lot more and explore the world as Rand is reeled along on a plot hook. I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll leave it at that, but if you enjoy world building this is where it STARTS.
Not me hearing one measly mention of Cadsuane in #WoT ep4 and getting excited, having already pictured Shohreh in the role, when the casting for that role is not yet confirmed. I know it’s more likely she’ll be cast as Elaida just based on speculation from filming locations from earlier this year (I’m happy either way tbh), but my gay ass is trained to react. I’m getting ahead of myself. 🫣
There are parallels one can track between initial favourite wheel of time characters and favourite cosmere characters, as in its more likely if you liked perin aibara from the begining that you like dalinar and that if you liked matt from the secknd youmet him, that you might like shallan davar
The Chair of Remorse is a ter'angreal for punishing criminals. It's a large block of gray, hard as steel everywhere except the top. Those who sits on it sinks into it and the top molds itself around them. The “chair” has only one break, a palm sized rectangular hole on one side with tiny notches carved around it. Channeling into this, the person sitting on the chair experiences selected consequences of their crimes.
The Chair is the main reason that there is so little crime in #TarValon
Mostly given up trying to make it work with what I know from the books. The only minor nitpick I have left is with Lan the character (the actor is marvelous).
Fantastic last 4 episodes and epic finale, worth a watch even if you were frustrated with the pace of season 1!
