With only a weekend until the start of the , @codysimpson is undoubtedly preparing for the heats of his life. He'll have a couple of things to look forward to beyond the racing in Brisbane... being officially released on June 18th & a cover shoot + interview of him, set to come out next Friday, the 14th. Hopefully I can read that in full at some point. Nice pics of him in various designer clothes from that shoot. All the best, to you Codes.

wpgne,

I can just see Cody and/or Jack down on the Big Sur beach at the Bixby Canyon outlet, as pictured here in this other photo I took in 2014.

wpgne,

@codysimpson offered a rundown on some of his tattoos (after he described a few prior to the 2020 Fendi show in Milan [for Vogue Holmes]) via this segment:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZewXFzi4pQ
He had his mom/mum Angie there along with him, too. Guess she wanted him to explain the origins of the tatt he got for her. Also got to know he got the Bradley one for his dad.

wpgne,

Getting his Dolphin number in the future seems like an inevitability. Guess he'd also consider the Olympic rings, but only if he managed to make it there....

wpgne,

Looked up Codes' events...
His first is the 50 m Freestyle (heat 2, lane 9) on Wednesday, June 12th. Heats begin at 12:10 AEST.
A final is at 20:40, B final at 21:20
Second is the 100 m Freestyle (heat 3, lane 6) on Thursday, June 13th. Heats begin at 11:56.
A final at 20:12, B final at 21:16
Lastly, his bread and butter -- the 100 m Fly (heat 3, lane 5) on the last day: Saturday, June 15th. Heats begin @ 12:14.
A final is @ 2014 & B final is @ 20:22
Whatever the outcome, I'll be glad for him.

wpgne,

Here's the article, on Codes (and the clothing/watches):

A pretty well-rounded interview. I do have one point to mention, which is sort-of discussed in the interview, but I'll hold off saying anything until after the .

Looked into giving @codysimpson an extra incentive to get on the #Paris2024 Dolphins or by clocking personal best(s) at the #AustralianOlympicTrials . If he did, I was willing to pick up a pair of the #Speedo replica #Olympic swim briefs, to congratulate him & support the Dolphins. But #SpeedoAusNZ has their site restricted to Australian-only purchases. Could get parcel forwarding to Canada, but the billing portion is solely for Aussie addresses. Oh well. Maybe Codes can snag a pair.

wpgne,

And, Codes has changed his IG bio back to something more familiar...
He seems to put the most important/relevant thing he's working on/doing first, then the next one, and so on. It's interesting to see how it changes as he adjusts it fairly regularly. Seems to offer a little insight into where he's at on any given day, which I think is cool.

Merely 1½ weeks until @codysimpson is off to Brisbane for quite the swim trial ( #AustralianOlympicTrials ) . Was going to repost the video he had a few days ago of him swimming a blazing fast lap with a few bars of "Love's Theme" by Barry White, featuring the Love Unlimited Orchestra playing in the background. But he seems to have taken it down. Instead, noticed his rather simple bio title...

wpgne,

But, at least we have this photo from Emma's recent 30th bday celebration (Happy bday, Emma). All the best to her at Brisbane, as well.
Photo credit: Emma McKeon/Instagram (she's not on Threads as far as I can see)

wpgne,

Ah, how appropriate: the next song that just came up on my shuffle is Susan Jacks' rendition of "Elusive Butterfly". Seems very timely. Reminds me of this butterfly sand mold I kept during my last visit to California in 2014. Found it at Huntington Beach as I was digging in the sand. Something told me to hold onto it -- lest it get pulled out to sea as more ocean plastic. It's safe here.

Spent the day watching TV and hanging out at the park. Also got a haircut. Pretty much a lazy day to recover from the past ten.

wpgne,

@followthedutchman Cool, Anton. Thanks for joining us here. Am following along with your journey.

Dang. Guilty. Wasn't expecting that.

wpgne,

@mitch yes, good point. I've been following along fairly closely. Was telling after seeing one of the "legal scholars" Trump keeps mentioning, Jonathan Hurley, who is a Fox News contributor actually say yesterday or this morning that even he expected either a hung jury or partial conviction. That says a lot right there.

Have learned more about machines, thanks to @TechConnectify 's series on his unit, than I ever expected to.
Part III on some of the more complex electromechanical logic it has was released today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeDCCNFAULk
I'm not much of a gamer, but has been interesting to see the intricacies of a machine that uses relays and wires to operate, versus microcontrollers. Thanks for putting the series together, Alec.

With all the rain we've had, the lawn is growing quite well. Was able to do the first cut of the season Thursday. A bit delayed this year due to the truck being in winter storage mode longer than usual. Will need to cut it again this week, especially with a total of 40 mm from the Friday-Saturday rains.

A slower than usual today due to the first day of a cold I likely caught at our hockey league dinner on Thursday. Ended up crossing paths with one of the past season's players while out today. Chatted a bit, but he was in a rush to visit his girlfriend as it's her birthday. I had thought of him about an hour & a half ago, too. Picked up litter from all 3 "vices" today, which, I think is a first. Not pictured: an empty & crumbled pack of cigarettes (or darts, as they're referred to, here).

wpgne,

Also found one of these very familiar objects you'll see thousands upon thousands of outdoors throughout the city, here. They are six foot lengths of orange PVC conduit tubing with a strip of white reflective tape on one end. These are commonly affixed to fire hydrants and utility boxes at ground level for visibility purposes in winter so snow clearing workers do not hit what is attached to them. This one had broken free from somewhere, so picked it up as litter.

Splash n dash at the Taupo HPC then off to Auckland.

wpgne,

@jono_nz what EV model do you have?

wpgne,

@jono_nz thank you

Been one of those generally wet and windy days here today. We're certainly in no way starved for rain by this point in the latter half of spring.
Received around 30 mm of rain today - 18 fell in the early morning hours. Would have been higher if a dry slot didn't develop here between 09:00 & 14:00.
Areas out to the west actually had some snow coming down as temps were near zero. That's unusual for late May.

Driving this around really garners attention. While driving the Allegro I always got a few thumbs up (and laughs), this gets a more serious response. Had the occasional boy racer pull alongside and rev his combustion engine.
It engages people differently and that's interesting.

wpgne,

@KiwiEV have been considering an Ioniq as a possibility for my first EV later next year. Really looking for a small SUV/crossover with full 4x4 capabilities (needed for Canadian winter ice and snow). Have appreciated @TechConnectify 's discussions on it to provide some insight.

Hopefully @Bigrigtravels can replace his "Alien tape" on the windshield that helps secure our "eyes on the road", as we've seen the phone fall down several times in the past week or so. The Blue Comet has been taking quite a few hard bumps on the roads he's been on -- so much so, that the on-board safety camera has triggered more in the past few weeks than he's had in his seventeen years of driving. I would agree with him that a recent software upgrade has maybe made the system too sensitive.

wpgne, (edited )

@Bigrigtravels yeah, it seems like you need to setup a rule/whitelist to allow your app (ip addresses/ports) to upload the Snowman images to your FTP server.
You did specifically say at 08:45 yesterday morning that the bonding service shouldn't have been on. Based on my observations, it was, which is why I commented.
