    :happyBirthday: 1 year (and 2 days) ago, androiddev.social was born.

    A bunch of us had been talking about the need for a place to have Android community discussions if Twitter died. Our fearless leader @friendlymike blazed ahead, got the domain, & set up this instance. We all signed up, some of us donated to cover fees, & the rest is history :androidDance:

    Mastodon isn’t perfect & we’re still growing, but I love this place & am glad to be here with y’all :blobUwu:

    iOS 17.2 introduces a new Focus Filter integration for the Music app.

    This makes it possible to prevent certain playlists or songs from contributing to your listening history if you're, say, driving the kids to school for a 'Driving' Focus, or excluding music played during a 'Workout' Focus.

    I love this idea.

    We’re on the look for a new family car and I’ve been pleasantly impressed with the BMW X5/X6. 2023 models have nice climate controls: physical switches and a little screen showing mode, degrees, etc

    Then I drove the new 2024 model. And got this absolute mess:

    Carmakers, please stop using screens instead of buttons. This is not an upgrade.

    IIRC, 1Password 8 was all hyped up because they used some sort of xplat code sharing thing. It’s also when the UI got hella buggy, and it’s only really gotten worse as far as I can tell. Interesting

    Question for Android devs at companies that make their own design system libraries (e.g. alternatives to, or in addition to, Material):

    How many distinct components do you ship?

    Ballpark is fine. Can be Compose or View components. E.g. button, FAB, text field, icon, picker, etc.

    @victor Upgrading my Series 6 to Ultra 2, and my iPhone 13 Pro to iPhone 15 Pro. I really wanted the prism telephoto lense, but the Pro is already too big for me and I'm not willing to go any larger. Natural titanium for both.
