SDLPoP: An open-source port of Prince of Persia, based on the disassembly of the DOS version.

I'm off sick, and was overcome by the urge to try to play Prince of Persia - the 2D cinematic platformer from 1989, that is.

In a remarkable moment of injustice and incomprehensible profit-avoidance by rightsholder Ubisoft, you can't buy it for modern desktop operating systems and the last port was in 2012.

Anyway, here's 2014 Dávid Nagy's unofficial SDLPoP port. The readme could be a bit more streamlines, but version 1.23 from the 4th of February built fine for me on Pop!_OS thus:

Download an archive from https://github.com/NagyD/SDLPoP/releases/tag/v1.23
Extract it and cd to that directory.
sudo apt-get install libsdl2-image-dev
cd src
make all
[optional] sudo make install

I had this link saved, someone apparently recreated the game in javascript a while ago: https://princejs.com/

Dunno how it compares to these recompiled or ported versions but it's definitely more convenient to run 😁

dandi8,

Nice! It seems this version has support for quick saves, which will surely come in handy.

I have been save-scumming like you wouldn't believe. Quicksaves don't persist between runs, though.
