tallwookie, so… they’re trying to crack open the cpu market?
smallaubergine, Risc-v had been in development for years now and has a lot of big backers, from large tech companies to countries and universities. It has a lot of potential to disrupt the CPU market. Imagine if you want to design a product or system that needs a bunch of chips. You could pay Intel, arm, TI, a ton of money in licensing for a chip that likely has far more features than you need. Or you could get a custom chip made without licensing to worry about. It would be far more efficient. I doubt risc-v will go up against your desktop cpus any time soon but it will start with the cpus in a plethora of other kinds of systems. I'm really excited for a future where cpus are more open and fabricated in more places
