Anyone ever removed stock launcher with ADB before?

Hiya, am thinking about removing the stock android launcher on my Pixel 7a, due to a bug causing one of the three navigation buttons to randomly not work, more about the bug here; lemmy.world/post/10555733. So was wondering if anyone had any experience regarding this? I know how to remove it, just want to know what the potential...

I don’t think adb would let you remove it, unless you have root. But you can try it out in Android Studio’s Emulator, it essentially provides you with with an Android VM on your PC. You can access it straight from adb, and it doesn’t matter if you break something, as you can simply create a new virtual device.

Andromxda,

You can’t and shouldn’t root GrapheneOS.

Andromxda,

Is that what people use to freeze Apps nowadays? I’m curious, because the last time I used a rooted Android device was like 7 years ago.

Andromxda,

Asahi Linux. There is a community at !asahilinux, but it kinda seems abandoned.

Andromxda,

Can’t the EU ‘suspend’ Hungary’s membership until Orban the dictator is removed from office?

You don’t need NetGuard. GrapheneOS has a built in, more reliable firewall. You can access it by going to the settings -> privacy -> permission manager and selecting Network. Also, you can’t use a VPN when using NetGuard, so I recommend dropping NetGuard and using a VPN, as well as the built-in firewall instead.

Andromxda,

Check out Calyx VPN and Riseup VPN. They are run by voluntary, non-profit organizations. If you need maximum security, consider routing your traffic through Tor, using the Orbot app (it’s not in the main F-Droid repo, you need to add the Guardian Project repo). There’s also Windscribe VPN, but it has limited bandwidth.

Andromxda,

This is about free VPNs.

Andromxda,

WriteFreely is pretty nice, it uses the ActivityPub protocol and is thus a part of the Fediverse - just like Lemmy and Mastodon.

Andromxda,

There’s definitely no bias at all here /s

CEO of Google Says It Has No Solution for Its AI Providing Wildly Incorrect Information (futurism.com)

You know how Google’s new feature called AI Overviews is prone to spitting out wildly incorrect answers to search queries? In one instance, AI Overviews told a user to use glue on pizza to make sure the cheese won’t slide off (pssst…please don’t do this.)...

Are we going to see arch based immutable distros in the near future?

Hi there folks, I’m still learning about Linux and have yet to dip my toes properly in any arch based distro. Have for the moment fallen in love with the immutable distros based on Universal Blue project. However I do want to learn about what arch has to offer to and plan on installing default arch when I have time. But have...

Andromxda,

4get

requires a CAPTCHA per 100 searches

The software itself doesn’t require any Captcha, it’s just the specific instance you chose that has this requirement. There are many other instances (like e.g. 4get.ch) that don’t have a Captcha at all. You can find the entire instance list at 4get.cynic.moe/instances. It also shows you whether an instance has the captcha enabled or not.

What cloud vps server host do I use?

What cloud VPS host is the best for privacy and security? I want to self host stuff for myself some tools. Mental Outlaw make a video last year about self hosting your own VPN with a service called Vultr but back in December vultr added to their TOS that they own what you host and a bunch of other scary stuff. So I don’t trust...

Andromxda,

Check out Njalla, Kyun, 1984 Hosting and OrangeWebsite. I think they all accept crypto payments (including Monero!) BitLaunch is a reseller for Linode and Vultr that allows you to pay with crypto, and hostingbydesign is a Hetzner reseller that doesn’t require KYC.

Andromxda,

I always hated Samsung for their shitty business practices, and the way they dealt with their customers in terms of device repairability

Andromxda,

But now some genius doesn’t read the fine print and hooks up 2 or 3 on the same circuit. There is no electrician that tells him that’s dangerous because it’s all self installed and he doesn’t know any better. And all of a sudden you are up to 26.5A and you got glowing, smoking wires in your walls…

Ok sure, that makes sense. This might actually be an issue.

Andromxda,

Maybe try some more troubleshooting on GrapheneOS? Also, I’m sure that the folks in the GrapheneOS Matrix channel are ready to help you out. You should be able to get Android Auto to work somehow.

Regarding AFWall+, do you actually need it? GrapheneOS has a built-in firewall, doesn’t that work well enough for you? And can’t you use something like NextDNS instead of AdAway? Also, the Graphene folks might be able to help troubleshoot the AdAway problem.

If you are going to switch to another OS, I recommend DivestOS. It’s the only thing that even comes close to Graphene in terms of security. It’s based on LineageOS, but has some significant security improvements, and for example allows for bootloader relocking. It’s the only other OS recommended by the Graphene devs.
