Back to Daley Ranch and adjacent Dixon Lake. Good sun, and the were flying. Still not getting the specie variation I hoped for. Not pictured: Any Whites. They were out, of course.

Buckeye in flight. There were tons of Buckeyes today.
Gray Hairstreak, hidden in foliage. There were lots of Grays too! Two generations of them.
Metalmark on Broom. My one Metalmark for the day but I’m sure there were more.

Elfin Forest rarely disappoints for #butterflies and today was no exception. Lots of good stuff.

Female Bernardino Blue gives a hint of orange inner wing as she pauses to snack on a Buckwheat blossom.
This Behr’s Metalmark also enjoys the new Buckwheat blossoms.
This unidentified Skipper bravely defends its trailside pebble.

And now, as part of our Elfin Forest #butterfly venture, let’s hear it for this wounded warrior. This American Lady has seen a lot of battles, but still flies even after losing a quarter of its wing surface. It still defends its space in this world.

Beautiful even though damaged, the little white spot in the orange area identifies this Lady species.
Half the lower wings are missing from this American Lady from battle.

There were sooooo many Skipper today. Hundreds easily. I could have made a video of my entire descent down the Equine Incline Trail and there would always be at least 2 in the camera field. Often 4 or 5 would cluster together. It was wild!

Some nice observations of during an excursion to Orange County today. “Vanilla” species.

This Tiger Swallowtail dances around what appears to be Lantana blossoms.
Monarch floats over Milkweed.

@Pollinators Just a personal observation, there’s been a huge crash in numbers in the last decade, due to aggressive landscape maintenance practices following the big fires here in California. I suspect the insurance industry is largely to blame for that.

@BruceMirken Epoch Times is also operating in social media under several guises. They create FB groups focusing on innocent family-oriented topics, trying to raise readership. They are a propaganda rag, and need to be shut down.
