Y'all I just made myself feel so old, hubs looked up top 100 music from 2001, 2011, 2021, and today and the amount of music I could recognize decreased by significantly. I recognized probably 70% of 2001 and decreasing as I went on. BUT I blame the internet, I can listen to exactly the kind of music I want with no dependence on the radio, but also I'm old!

I'm going to ramble a bit, but it will hopefully come around to something. When I was growing up, I read a lot of older historical book series, a big one would be the Little House On The Prairie series. While I really enjoyed it, there are some very obviously negative portrayals of Native Americans and African Americans. I remember being angry about it as a kid, and my Dad telling me, that part of learning about history is that we have to acknowledge the people we were, and still are. But because Little House on the Prairie is only semi-autobiographical, I still have mixed feelings about this. I do think they are well written books by a female author, an interesting perspective on early American life, and as an adult I can see and acknowledge the issues with the text. If we try to get rid of every author with racist ideas there wouldn't be much left to read from the 20th Century, and it also feels like being dishonest about who we are. So, I'm very mixed, how do you all feel about it? Do you think children can handle books with racial issues like this if it's explained to them? What is our responsibility here?

Weanerdog,
@Weanerdog@c.im avatar

@RickiTarr That's quite a topic. I think that POC should be in charge of the narrative. I think they should determine how their story is shared and told.

So next week I am going for a series of electroconvulsive therapy. So I am going to voluntarily put my brain into seizure due to electric current being sent through said brain.

Can't say that I am not terrified by the idea. This is basically the last thing that can be done to get me out of my lovely treatment resistant depression.

I had to take all my jewellery out and replace them with plastic. All my beautiful greens, Blues and purples are now almost invisible plastic.

Has anyone had this treatment? Anything I need to know?

I learned two things today:

  1. Vegetable is a culinary term, and doesn't exist botanically.

  2. Some people say Vegetables are poison for humans, despite an avalanche of evidence to the contrary.

Weanerdog,
@Weanerdog@c.im avatar

@RickiTarr

Number 1 is fascinating

Number 2 is completely weird. Like eat the veg from the shops don't go out and pick and eat veg that your AI written book said was safe to eat.

Sure there is a tiny risk of listeriosis, but that can be in any food product. So unless you've evolved to photosynthesies the photons from the sun into energy you need to eat some food and veg are good for your body.

Are you the person you always thought you would be?

Weanerdog,
@Weanerdog@c.im avatar

@RickiTarr

I thought I would serve my country as a recon or demolitions expert. But my country was literally the bad guys and after starting my mandatory service I realised how fucked up my country was.

I don't know why I thought the military would be better. Held to a higher standard but it wasn't. It's was a racist cesspool.

So from there I studied trying to make myself well off. To be able live in a big house, with anything that I could desire. Turns out that I would sabotage myself at every turn. I eventually had a mental issues and later a full breakdown. Because my wants never aligned with my needs.

So no my life is nowhere close to where I though I would be. But I now know what the needs are. I am very short on energy but I think I know what it is that I have to do.

I do have a beautiful little house with an awesome garden. 2 strapping lads who online school and we play video games together. I have an amazing wife. And 2 dogs one the size of a small bear and the other I'm convinced is an arctic fox. So life is hard inside my head but I'm doing very well in all other aspects.

@melissabeartrix In Cape town for social get togethers people start arriving 30 minutes late. It's actually gotten a lot better since COVID. But for our Johannesburg friends, a lot have moved down to Cape town, they are expecting everyone 5 minutes early.

A clash of cultures. Were invited people around for a braai (BBQ) and they all arrive on time. Nothing was close to being ready.

When I was out I noticed the road dribbling out water a bit more than 6 months ago and also a small leak in Trafalgar Street ... It's all to do with just near the intersection of Parramatta road and Johnson Street the water main was fixed 40 years ago, in an emergency repair, they wrapped the pipe in a thick rubber and used a pipe clamps type things to hold it ... This was a temporary fix back then ... Why do I know this, one of my customers was in charge of fixing it, original

This is all related to the thump thump issues outside the shop when the buses go down the bus lane, as the water is running between the double slab of concrete and eroding

I had to install a water pump under the lounge room as it is that bad ... Giggles

And seriously, I couldn't be assed to raise this with the correct places, as every time I do they do jake shit about it ... Giggles

@melissabeartrix Yes. I find it extremely sensual. A soy wax candle massage is like my ultimate. But I've played in a S&M environment. It's a lot of fun. I think because it's very slow and sensual as opposed to impact play. I'm not a super masochistics so it's more a medium to higher end of the spectrum. But it wouldn't push me to far.

I do get a nice buzz from it. And the scraping off is a lot of intense touching which I enjoy.

Is 10,000 steps good for a day?

Hugz & xXx

Weanerdog,
@Weanerdog@c.im avatar

@melissabeartrix it's good but it's by no means an optimal number. The optimal number is really dependant on the person and how they take the steps. I think the benefit starts decreasing at around 8000. That doesn't mean taking 19000 isn't good for you and better than 8000 it's just the first 8000 get you the most benefit. But it is proper person dependant. Taking more steps will ultimately make you fitter but there is no magic number.

Apparently certain self sufficient Hunter gatherers. The hunters will do around 19 000 steps. That's mixed walking and running. And this will be fine before about 11. At which time the hunt is called off and they will go look for honey. On which they gorge themselves.

Other days they will capture something reasonably early in the day and so that day will be cut short.

But the scientist that was studying then said on average 19000 steps. Mix walking running.

TL;DR

Y the optimal number is person dependant. Getting steps in is good. Especially as an exercise good for the mind. Try to do at least 8000. Nothing wrong with 10000 but it's not a magic number.

Wow, working for yourself for 34 years. That really takes dedication and is in fact damn inspiring. I was a terrible boss to myself. I tried it a couple times. But I couldn't crack it. The crazy notion of someone else just putting money in my account at the end of every month without having to beg and fight just was for me so stabilising that I was happy being paid so much less than what I could theoretically make.

I can mask a meeting and social interaction. But I'm terrible at attracting clients and even more useless at asking for money from them.

I admire you for being able to do this.
