People complain now, but they’ll renew their subscription. It’s the same unhealthy relationship people have with Windows.

This is actually an excellent comparison. I don’t own a car, and I advocate for the car free lifestyle. I also don’t recommend people using Adobe if possible.

I use these tools everyday. Yes there are limitations, but for what MOST people need there are solutions. It just depends on what is important to you. Also, you can use the ellipse assistant.

I use all 3 for professional work. Might not be good for your job but it’s been great for mine.

No, but you can disable Adobe Acrobat Document Cloud services.

Time to get new friends.

Or maybe, find friends that are less judgemental and more open minded. Just a thought.

Linux Is Only Free if You Don’t Value Your Time

This one is my favorite.

My co-workers SSD failed, and he was out most of the day. My SSD failed, and I was back up and running in about 10 minutes.

Boot to USB drive and load documents from backup. After my shift is over, I restore or replace the bad drive.

If you want to test out Linux, try running a virtual machine instead. There are a few good free software programs to do this. VirtualBox used to be a good option. It’s a free and harmless way to dive into Linux.

We’re also using machine learning for the local site translation. The AI buzzword is doing more damage than good PR.

10 years ago when I worked at a movie theater the paper cups ran us about 30¢ each. The soda was about 5¢.

future firmware updates are expected to include encryption features

Just use GnuPG. SMH

This is bullshit.

Until I see an OSI approved license, it’s not open source.

I don’t need a mythical book to tell me that stabbing someone in the neck 12 times might be considered a dick-move.

I never understood the while God = Good thing. In fact it usually goes the other way.

I recommend the flatpak version. It’s still a little buggy as an app, and it’s missing a few features, but it’ll be rad when it’s done.

Banning websites in the year 2024 is never going to work. The average user is more savvy than the average lawmaker.

IDK is the average TikTok user really installing VPN software on it’s phone?

Yes. From the article a, 2500% spike in VPN usage.

TikTok is not a platform for political discussion

Yet, despite that, it’s working as one. Effectively.

Is it though?

 • You’re still going to need rail workers to make sure the tracks are healthy.
 • The cost of a fleet of these self-standing pods versus one or two older decommissioned trains It’s about the same price.

I’m struggling to see any benefit here.

Sounds like they need a shuttle bus which would be a TON cheaper and more efficient.

No mention of license in this article. Are they going to be releasing it through a git of some kind?

BYD has been making buses and work trucks for the US market for years. I’ve only had a ride on a few BYD buses, but they seem to be quality.

art,
@art@lemmy.world avatar

Just want to remind people that BYD has been in the American market since 2011. They’ve been involved with building industrial vehicles like trucks and buses.

There was this idea that instead of having the web powered by large data companies like Google and Meta you could keep all your information in the blockchain. It was an attempt to “take back control”.

However, most of the proponents kinda forgot that the web is already decentralized and only portions are controlled by Meta and Google.

Then, of course, we had the grifters come in.

The whole thing was built on a misunderstanding of how the web actually works.

It ain’t like it used to be. Just upgraded my machine to an Nvidia for the first time in like 10+ years.

sudo apt install nvidia

After a reboot it was smooth as hell. I remember the dark ages. I remember fucking with X.org settings. 😐
