So I took the plunge and installed Fedora Silverblue because of all that immutable buzz. And itโs the most frustrating change I have made in almost 20 years of my distrohopping....
I really need to get in contact with some people on WA and have some groups to join and have been waiting for interoperability to get going so I donโt have to use zuckโs app . But the said date march has long passed and I canโt find shit on it or why it didnโt happen anywhere . I have yesterday downloaded the apk from...
Itโs not going to matter, as far as privacy is concerned. Meta is going to collect your metadata regardless of whether you use WhatsApp or any other theoretically interoperable platform.
you can disable background updates, wifi and mobile data, location, etc. which renders the app useless. They cant collect directly from the phone that way.
โฆwhy not just uninstall the app altogether at that point?
Most privacy concerns donโt stem from any of that anyway, it stems from the metadata in your messages. Who youโre talking to, when, how often, etc.
I have one app for all my messaging needs.
I mean I guess thatโs true if you only use 2 messaging platforms?
i will always ask for matrix communication first which takes meta out of the loop
You can do that without bridges.
i have friends who arent tech savvy or ready to switch so I am not forced to use whatsapp
โฆbut you are using WhatsApp. Itโs not just an app, itโs a service.
its a fun exercise
If this is what you find fun, more power to you. Just donโt be under the illusion that this increases privacy even a little.

I think this is one of those situations where someone is downvoted and they canโt fathom why (because their opinion being unpopular is not possible) so latch onto whatever theory makes the most sense to them and declare it as fact.
Which is completely meaningless when you canโt repair the hardware ๐คฆ Itโs okay, you donโt have to defend the corporations to make yourself feel better about your poor purchase decisionsโฆ
But you can repair those devices if you get a certified shop to do it.
No you canโt. Apple has contracts with component manufacturers barring them from selling board level components to anyone. You can only buy complete assemblies which usually end up costing close to the price of an entire new device.
They also put a 500% premium on storage upgrades. And if you buy an identical device and drop it in, it will not function at all.
Or if you donโt mind not having biometric sensors or NFC
I dunno how you can just drop this and pretend like itโs not fucking appalling and intentionally malicious.
It isnโt an example of planned obsolescence, just an example of poorly communicating and handling potential security concerns.
That is some made-up bullshit if Iโve ever heard it.
The evidence against Apple and planned obsolescence is astounding and undeniable.

Is it worth waiting for WhatsApp interoperability anymore ? Is it ever coming ?
