Some AMAZING results coming in from India's elections!!

  • #1, the disgusting misogynist man part of the hindu majoritarian party who was representing my parent's new constituency has MAJORLY lost.
  • #2, in Ayodhya – where hindu terrorists installed a new temple upon a mosque they demolished in the 90s ushering in the era of hindu supremacy – a Dalit candidate won against two brahmins.
  • #3, a former model who claimed women must not wear scandalous clothes etc and was responsible for all of the horrendous incompetent handling of sexual abuse cases has lost her seat.
  • #4, A nebo baby of a giant politician in Karnataka who had aligned himself with the hindu supremacy parties was found to have taken thousands of videos of his assault of women and posted them. He lost his seat while he is in jail

Review sites ought to make some kind of adjustment for reviewers whining about price, because I'll bet it affects non-Euro cuisines more and drags down their overall rating in comparison. ("Asian food must be cheap or I'll drop and kick my legs screaming.") Just read the reviews of a Filipino restaurant in LA, and I mean if you didn't like the price on the wall, you had the option to not order the food 🤷🏾

While I myself might not agree with everything student protesters choose to do, I find a certain genre of handwringing about their (not centralized/top-down) choices quite tiresome. If only demands could be expressed sufficiently moderately, then they'd really succeed! 🥱

Kolektiva, come get your person.

There's someone arguing in my mentions that the student protesters haven't succeeded in any way bc there aren't "celebratory parades" in honor of US/universities ceasing to support the Gaza war.

radhika,
@radhika@sfba.social avatar

@inquiline Lately a fair few kolektiva accounts have been sounding an awful lot like... Russian bots towards the end of Twitter. It's the rhythm of their writing, and the way they use devices like 'oh wait' that make them sound awkward, like they're using a tool they're not entirely familiar with. Just a hunch.

@inquiline yes and I can imagine it would naturally be of interest to infiltrators/'impersonators'

I used to think ignorance drove injustice but now I think it’s denial — the human capacity to create and believe in stories collectively is our greatest blessing and deepest curse

radhika,
@radhika@sfba.social avatar

@plantarum @seachanger Someone talked to me about this too. From an evolutionary perspective, we had to belong to a group to survive. So our brains tend to prioritize human connection over everything else, even truth/facts.

I went to a Turkish restaurant and I told the auntie ‘no rice please’ and she didn’t really speak English but she said ‘no no rice’ so now I have rice but hey it’s actually amazing rice (and genuinely one of the best Turkish restaurants I’ve been to, as good as in Turkey omg)

She also reminds me of all the Turkish aunties I know

(It’s called Muma Kitchen, west side LA)

the anti-woke folk are obsessed with not wanting to feel guilt, and they project it on children as a means of virtue signaling, as in “white kids shouldn’t be made to feel guilty for being white!” but isn’t this the hallmark of the sociopath? inability to empathize and have remorse? how do you look at our jagged, murderous histories giving rise to the jagged murderous present and take only from all that a righteous refusal to empathize with other human beings and feel things?

radhika,
@radhika@sfba.social avatar

@seachanger This spoke to me, because I woke up thinking about how ridiculous it was that heliocentrism was considered blasphemy. That everything had to revolve (literally) around humans for certain people to feel 'safe', or not-dysregulated.

Jay-Z's "My First Song" is in 3/4, right?

Jay's flow is in triplets, but when I try to count the beat I feel a 4/4 sometimes and a 3/4 others.

I don't know much about music theory and time signatures, so help me understand this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=colv2Wy2q7E

radhika,
@radhika@sfba.social avatar

@docpop On a quick listen the bass is on a slower 4/4 - with the main bass notes on the 1 and 3 of the bar. And the bass pattern is over 2 bars of 4/4. Then the synth is playing triplets over each note in the 4/4 - that wouldn't be notated as 3/4, but as a bar with a '3' over it. Not sure how to write that in text, but there's a diagram here: https://www.hoffmanacademy.com/blog/what-is-a-triplet-in-music/ Is that what you meant?

radhika,
@radhika@sfba.social avatar

@docpop Yes mathematically they're equivalent. Just a question of which scale you use to divide up the same chunk of time.

Here I've written out 4/4 and 6/8 together, with the 6/8 counting inside the rectangles.

When I write I tend to use triplets, so that's probably why I saw it that way! But the 6/8 version might be more standard.

Still have my Canon EOS 500 from the, um, '90s and there's a roll of unfinished film in there. Bought some CR123 batteries to be able to get the film out (hope it wakes up). Moved to DSLRs in 2001, so this could be an interesting time capsule moment.

    San Francisco doesn't need a zoo. The city spends $4m a year on this. The director (on a $339,500 annual salary) seems to treat the place as her own personal fiefdom, giving her daughter a paid internship and hiring her fiance to perform concerts. And animal carers have consistently complained about conditions for the animals.

    People on Twitter are debating whether a person using uncommon words like "delve" are trying to sound smarter than they are, or worse, are ChatGPT bots, because "normal" people don't talk like that.

    You don't have to get upset, or embroiled in the debate. Not worth the time or attention. But I'll share some important context as your friendly neighborhood Nigerian 🙋🏿‍♂️

    Many Nigerians have bigger English language vocabularies and better command of grammar than the typical American or English person

    Instant Band Night is a party where musicians who have just met are asked to form a band and perform a song in five minutes. It sounds like a ton of fun and the next one is happening tomorrow (March 14th) at the East Bay Community Space in . Guests aren't required to perform on stage, so you can choose if you want to be in a band or not. Masks are required, which I think is great. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/instant-band-night-25-pi-day-2-pie-harder-tickets-797053387137

    Oh I am ready for an expose of Jay Shetty.

    "Much of Shetty’s spiritual education took place not in India but in Watford, an orbital town outside north-west London, they say. He was there not because of a spiritual discovery in college but because he grew up in the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (also known as Iskcon or the Hare Krishna movement)."
