Perpetually earwormed, easily amused 40-something. More of a sheep-poster than a shitposter. (There's a slightly more serious bio in my pinned posts, if you're really interested.)

Follows locked to reduce spam, but I will usually approve requests. I don't usually follow people with blank profiles, excessive boosting or lots of politics. I much prefer to see a person's (anonymous or not) posts than lots of links. DMs open to people I follow only.

This is every time we try at work to have a meeting online with an external organization - but we're the voice coming from the laptop.

It's six months exactly since I first signed up properly to Mastodon (well, I had set up an account on one of the big instances earlier and then noped out almost immediately), and I have to say it's been the most fun I've had on the internet for a really long time. I've semi-drifted away from most other places, but I really like it here, and I hope it continues.

Thank you all for being your interesting, silly, thoughtful, entertaining, wonderful selves and making this place what it is.

This is very cool. A couple of weeks ago, after seeing someone slip on an ice covered path, I e-mailed the town council to ask if they would consider installing a hand rail in this park, as the path is very steep in places. Looks like they not only considered it, but have actually done it. Well done Aberystwyth Town Council!

Seen on FB, but there's got to be someone in the Fediverse who would be interested:

From retired clog maker Trefor Owen:
'For Sale: the contents of a clog making workshop. All lasts/tools etc available. I will NOT split the equipment up - it goes as a complete set up. Costs: subject to who is buying it... if a museum who intends to put it all in storage - No sale.. it needs to go to someone who will continue its use.'

Dydd hapus !
Happy day!

It's a year since the first known use of the Defaidodon (a combination of the Welsh word for sheep and Mastodon) hashtag in the Fediverse, and it turned out to be surprisingly popular. So show us your sheep.

Now that the last chicken has reached its new home, I can share this, which is all the chickens I've made. When I started my first chicken 3 months ago, I didn't realise I was going to make 6 in a very short time. Thank you all for humouring my obsession these past few months. I'm going to take a break now, but maybe I'll make another one if there's someone who really needs one.

Some woolly love for whoever needs it. This is a moebius style scarf I made a few years ago from some gorgeous handspun merino and yak yarn.

A cheerful little song about a fire that destroyed much of Baltimore. It's a good rule of thumb for folk songs that the more cheerful the tune, the more depressing the lyrics.

Stupid thoughts that I have, part elebenty-ten:

Someone should start a band that does reggae versions of the traditional midwinter songs and customs of Wales and the west of England. The band could be called Bob Mari Lwyd and the Wassailers.

I'll get my coat.

(Copied from elsewhere - full disclosure, I'm friends with the translator.)

Do you fancy reading a classic sci fi novel that until now has not been available in English? Or do you fancy a dystopian novel about the dangers of artifical intelligence?

If you don't fancy that, what about a novel exploring the importance of minority languages in recording history and memory?

I have spent a not insignificant amount of time trying to balance a stuffed toy chicken on my head today, with not great results. I hope you're all having a more productive and successful Monday than me.

I can, and will, stop doing ridiculous things with chickens soon, but today is not that day.

(I should note, I do not observe Easter in any meaningful sense - I'm not Christian, I do not have children, and mostly I see next weekend as a much needed long weekend. But I do like ridiculous decorations.)
