some_guy,

“Her term expires – she’s not running for re-election. So this time next year we’ll be in a very different place. I don’t want to make another appointment, and I don’t think the people of California want me to make another appointment.

Excuse me, I’m a Californian and I want her ass outta there last week.

some_guy,

Being a better person was hard when I sucked as a person. Once you work on yourself enough to be a “good” person, being better each day becomes a natural pursuit (if you want it).

I think the real challenge is wanting to be a better person enough to really pursue it. I didn’t watch the vid, so no idea how relevant my rant might be. I don’t have time for videos. Give me text. /End rant.

some_guy,

MTG told Alex Jones that this will brainwash people to harp on CC. Guess she was right. /s

Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis apologize over letters of support for Danny Masterson (abcnews.go.com)

The three women were members of the Church of Scientology, as is Masterson. All three women said they were initially hesitant to speak to law enforcement because they said church teachings discouraged reporting to police. The women eventually left the church....

some_guy,

Cult vs Criminal Org. Both can be true.

some_guy,

The bill would also require school boards to approve instructional materials that include accurate depictions of LGBTQ+ people and their contributions. It would ban school boards from rejecting textbooks because they mention the contributions of people with a particular racial background or sexual orientation.

For all the failures of my state (see 30% of all unhoused in the US without tearing our teeth out to solve it (that’s a movie reference)), this is about as anti-Florida as one could get. I’m proud of this.

Culture Warlords: My Journey Into the Dark Web of White Supremacy

Talia Lavin is every skinhead’s worst nightmare: a loud and unapologetic Jewish woman, acerbic, smart, and profoundly antiracist, with the investigative chops to expose the tactics and ideologies of online hatemongers. Culture Warlords is the story of how Lavin, a frequent target of extremist trolls (including those at Fox News), dove into a byzantine online culture of hate and learned the intricacies of how white supremacy proliferates online.

I had already purchased this book after hearing a podcast interview. Then, I heard another interview where Talia stood her ground against some kinda shitty interview tactics by Brianna Grey Joy and realized, oh, I have that book, and I immediately started reading it. It was excellent.

Shitty podcast interview (which is excellent because of Talia and shitty because of Brianna) here (I tried to find a link to the audio podcast, but it was a pita. You can see part of it on a YouTube link or look for the true audio from Sept 2021 by loading the RSS of the Bad Faith podcast.).

I won’t thump my chest. I fear violence. But violence is called for and justified regarding these pieces of shit. I’m posting this twice because I want it to be in the main thread and because I’m responding to the Talia-method: see => punch

some_guy,

OFAC stole a wire transfer to my landlord. I assume it’s because he has a Middle Eastern-sounding name.

They provided me a case number and I mailed in the forms I found online to dispute the seizure. They sent me a letter saying that they had no record of that case. I realized the futility of fighting the government over a couple of grand and switched to depositing money orders into his account and let it go. Created a lot of extra effort (not that it was difficult, just tedious) on my end.

OFAC is a criminal organization.

some_guy,

We need legislation to prevent this type of government meddling. Just like with the filibuster. Asshole.

some_guy,

Oh, they’ve been villainized my entire life. I grew up believing that they caused harm. I’m super-pro union, now. But I had to radically shift my politics before that happened and I wasn’t ever even on the Right.

some_guy,

Apparently, I had. The first two links on a search had already been visited. That’s discouraging. Thanks!

some_guy,

Language pedantry will always get me. I appreciate it. Thanks!

'One Chip Challenge' pulled from shelves after mother says spicy tortilla chip contributed to her son's death (www.nbcnews.com)

Paqui, the maker of extremely spicy tortilla chips marketed as the “One Chip Challenge,” is voluntarily pulling the product from shelves after a woman said her teenage son died of complications from consuming a single chip....

some_guy,

Great reference. I remember that and it made me smile in horror.

some_guy,

Great response. I’d counter that fear of death will still provide a gateway to religion, but there’s nothing else with which I’d quibble. Cheers!
