Michigan GOP is in shambles because they elected the “outsider” MAGA candidates who had no fundraising experience, they immediately failed to fundraise enough, it got so bad that their flagship annual fundraiser was a fraction of its normal size.
Instead of pulling together to right the ship they…immediately turned to conspiracy theories, declared each other to be Deep State plants, and demanded the party leaders “open the books” to show how much money there really was, but party leaders refuse because it would prove how bad at fundraising they have been.
I’m so curious as to how reactionaries will deal with bird flu. They could always be screeching toddlers about COVID because it meant being hygienic and polite to avoid a 1% FaTaLiTy RaTe, even if that didn’t reflect how severe it actually is without killing you outright. I have no clue what bird flu looks like in the long-term, but there’s that immediate 50% fatality rate. In theory that should make them take it seriously. BUT, in addition to all that 1984 COVID precautions which also suppressed other respiratory viruses, the only way to avoid this one is to not. eat. burger. That is their entire identity and they’ve spent the past four years hyped up on COVID denialism.
It's concerning to hear that the Michigan GOP has defaulted on a significant loan and hasn't made any payments for months. Financial responsibility and accountability are crucial, especially for political organizations. This situation raises questions about the party's financial management and could impact its credibility and trustworthiness with supporters and donors who used guaranteed $100 loan. I hope they address this issue promptly and transparently to restore confidence.
Make ebikes. They use ~100 times smaller batteries. Start putting down bike/NEV lanes, make cargo ebikes/mopeds. Stop trying to shoehorn your 0-60 in 5 seconds mid-life crisis vehicle into climate sustainability.
Lots of Copper deposits cannot be classified as a reserve due to the non economic viability of extraction. But if the price of copper increases due to a supply squeeze, well suddenly these once low value deposits become very attractive.
Rep. Donni Steele, R-Orion Township, similarly argued any spare money in the transportation budget should go to filling potholes and improving roads. “Regular people don’t care about electric bikes,” Steele said in a statement.
Based on other reports of US bribery, it might not even be that much. Politicians seem to be on sale for shockingly little money sometimes, especially at the local level.
I once had lunch with a guy who was formerly a lobbyist for Mizzou. He said it was easy af to bribe state politicians. A lot of times he would just give them season tickets to Mizzou games.
We’ve vacationed in Muskegon a few times. It’s not hard to sense the underlying tension in the air. A number of homes appear to be full time airbnbs, which will evidently drive up property values and squeeze the housing market for locals.
The city government has put a stop on new short term rentals to combat some of this. Muskegon needs to be a destination that people would like to spend time in on vacation, but preventing locals from affording to live here is always a problem to be wary of.
That’s how all of up north is. My partner and I moved to Lansing because we couldn’t afford to live where we grew up anymore. Fortunately, we didn’t want to stay there anyway, but it’s messed up. Everything is a vacation rental, so, unless you already own a home, it can be impossible to find somewhere to live
Not returning bottles does not equate to not recycling. At $0.10/can it’s just not worth it to me to store the cans and cart them to the store - especially with how few we go through (less than 10/week). We put them in our curbside recycling instead.
From bottles that are never returned, 75 percent of the paid tax goes to the state’s Cleanup and Redevelopment Trust Fund, while the remaining 25 percent goes to retailers.
Nevertheless, while I sincerely am happy to hear your family recycles your bottles and cans (as well as consuming trivial amounts of HFCS), you are as the edumacated say outlier with your less-than-two-six-pack-weekly lifestyle. I’m also glad you can afford to literally toss c.USD$4.00 a month in the trash recycling bin. Cheers!
