Vytle,

Dude im sorry but i think this whole movement is Republican Astroturfing. Sooooo insane that Joe Biden has had no major backlash from people who vote blue until the Republican presidential campaign ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Vytle,

Also i just want to point out that Israel controls the largest politcal lobby group in America, period. No president will EVER get in office that does anything to oppose Israel’s interests.

wildbus8979,

And I think Biden or nothing people are nearly as much of a cult as MAGAs 🤷

thesporkeffect,

I am 100% voting for Biden but this observation is like predicting the weather by going outside. More or less self evident. Sucks though

You think theres gonna be democracy after Trump? Democrats? A functioning nation? Kiss that all goodbye while your withhold your vote and help Trump win. If our voting system wasn’t FPTP you’d have some recourse. But it is, so, enjoy your brand new dictatorship in November.

wildbus8979, (edited )

It’s interesting to me that in the same paragraph you praise representative democracy and state how fucked up it is, and yet fail to see the issue.

But that remains besides the point.

@Sanctus@lemmy.world avatar

I definitely just said there’d be nothing after Trump. “Democrats?” was not referring to if the democrats win. I was saying Trump would hang them all if he won. First pass the polls is not allowed to be criticized? It sucks and is not the only option.

The cure for an ailing democracy is more democracy. We need more voter participation, fairer districts, and better more representative voting systems that don’t result in a two party gridlock which pushes everyone towards extremism or apathy.

The reason they are trying to draw unfair districts and make voting harder is because these are real systems of power that can influence change.

Democracy isn’t a thing that you have, it’s a thing that you do.

“You have no other choice except to vote for this atrocious ghoul with no ethics or empathy, who makes Jabba the Hutt look like Mary Poppins. But this is totally a democracy guise I swear.” -Democrats

wildbus8979,

Oh how do I wish Spinoza was still alive today. What a field day he would have!

popcap200,

I mean I’d rather vote for the guy who didn’t get rid of Roe v Wade, but that’s just me.

LinkOpensChest_wav,
@LinkOpensChest_wav@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Irrelevant to my comment.

Are you happy with Biden? Do you think a democracy is when you have no choice who to vote for?

popcap200,

Yeah! I love Biden. Between the student debt changes, build back better plan, insulin price changes for Medicare patients, helping Ukraine, etc. etc. all with only a 1 seat majority in the Senate, a conservative court that trump filled, and a now conservative house.

As for your other question, a Republic is still a form of Democracy. You have the ability to vote for whoever you want.

LinkOpensChest_wav,
@LinkOpensChest_wav@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

You have the ability to vote for whoever you want

Oh, I do now? What are my choices? Which candidate doesn’t fund ICE, imprison refugees, and send arms to a genocidal ethnostate? I’m so relieved to know I have a choice!

popcap200,

Whoever you wanna write in? Unfortunately for your personal beliefs, most Americans are batshit conservatives or moderate to progressive liberals, therefore usually a batshit Republican, and a moderate dem win the primaries, which frequently have more populist candidates as an option. Sanders was in the 2020 primary. I voted for him. He didn’t win, so I voted for Biden in the general.

Maybe I’m wrong, but It feels like you’d have the same complaints you have under this system that you’d have under any democratic system of government.

LinkOpensChest_wav,
@LinkOpensChest_wav@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

So you disagree that a vote for a third party is supporting Trump? You disagree with this statement and believe we actually have a choice?

We have a “choice” in the same way the people in Saw have a choice. Aka, we don’t, and this is not a democracy in any stretch of the term.

popcap200,

A third party vote is still supporting Trump if you have a left mindset (and vice versa for conservatives). You CAN vote for whoever you want, that doesn’t make it moral. The purpose of primaries is for the voters within the party to get together and decide the platform and candidate for that party.

Plus, between local and state elections, you have even more say with your vote. You could even run for office locally and have a chance of winning.

LinkOpensChest_wav,
@LinkOpensChest_wav@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Right. So fundamentally I have no choice, whether I technically do or not. My Saw comparison stands.

popcap200,

Your issue isn’t with the lack of choice. Your issue is that your candidates don’t win.

LinkOpensChest_wav,
@LinkOpensChest_wav@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Yeah because not supporting genocide and imprisoning innocent people is such a high bar for a president to clear

Fuck right off with your gaslighting

There is no contradiction in supporting democracy while criticizing the way it’s “implemented” in the US
