athos77, in Lozenge-shaped siege money minted in Newark-on-Trent, 1646

Those are interesting, and there's more detail (with some interesting bits) here - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_money_(Newark)

SidewaysHighways, in The Sedgeford Hoard, gold coins stored in a cow bone, Britain, 1st century BCE

Coinpurse looks like it could be lethal

Alchemy, in Gold coin of Philippe IV of France, 1285-1314 AD

3.46g weight, I wonder what the purity is/actual gold weight.

If you’re cool with a coin only from 1575, it could be had for a lot less!

drmoose, in Gold nomisma (coin) of Byzantine Emperor Alexius I Comnenus, 1081 AD -1118 AD

Pretty lazy craftsmanship ngl. Did it get flatted by something or they were like- yeah that’s about as round as we’ll get it.

The larger golden coins were intentionally made concave at this point in the Byzantine Empire, while the smaller ones were flat. Not sure why.

Kyrgizion, in Silver denarius of Roman Emperor Antoninus Pius, 140 AD

Dynastic issue with a young beardless Marcus Aurelius as successor/caesar. A pretty one at that.

Kyrgizion, in Axumite gold coin, modern Ethiopia, late 4th century AD

Gotta admit, African gold coins is definitely a gap in both my collection and my knowledge of ancient numismatics. Stunning piece!
