Tales of a Huffy

One part of the industry I hate is what I refer to as disposable bikes. Today my second ticket was an older Huffy mountain bike that was in for an estimate. This bike was seriously neglected.

The bottom bracket was so loose that the cranks were rattling, hubs loose, derailleurs not clearing the range, dry-rotted tires, the whole nine. After an initial inspection nothing was actually broken on the bike that needed to be replaced.

We offer a tune for $75. That would adjust everything, but let's be real, it not going to adjust to be anything remotely satisfying without overhauling, and even then, it would be okay at best. New tires would be $30 each, tubes $10 each, the install are $15 each. So bare minimum to get a POS out the door is just under $200.

How much could they have bought that bike for? Probably right around that same amount. These companies push out these cheap bikes that fall apart, creating waste, wasting people's money, but most importantly, ruining people's cycling experiences. This type of experience turns people off of cycling.
