Seriously. So many people would be better off just buying a $1000 bike, but they'd rather hold on to their cheap crappy bike and pay $100s each year to tune/replace, etc all the cheap crappy parts, and then blame the mechanic when it falls out of tune a few weeks later....
So exhausting, these people put so little mental effort into understanding even the simplest concepts regarding their bikes. I'm so tired of people bringing me bikes falling apart and telling the service writer it just needs a brake adjustment, or whatever minor service. Then when I get it, it needs both hubs adjusted, both brakes adjusted, wheels trued, etc. "What do you mean? It rides fine"
They don't want to learn anything about cycling, and it kills me. They're really only hurting themselves, but it makes my job so much more taxing.
One part of the industry I hate is what I refer to as disposable bikes. Today my second ticket was an older Huffy mountain bike that was in for an estimate. This bike was seriously neglected....
I notice on a lot of mags, there is one or two people posting, and either 0, a handful, or quite a bit of upvotes, but no one is really engaging, most the time there are 0 comments....
This afternoon I switched installed an Advent X drivetrain on my commuter. The derailleur was easy to work with, the shifter feels solid, and best of all, the price is very reasonable....
Great point. With my shop discount, it was only about $130 for derailleur, cassette, shifter, and a new chain. 10 speed, 11-48t, perfect for a 1x do-it-all commuter (perhaps even excessive.)
For some reason it really irks me when my service writer just puts down brake adjustment but really it's a wheel true, hub adjustment, and then a brake adjustment
What was supposed to be a simple tune turned into digging around old wheels to find a thicker locknut for the hub in order to flex the frame apart to stop the rotor from rubbing on the post-mount adapter. Bike came from a shop that closed a few weeks after selling it. What a morning.

It's exhausting dealing with entitled idiots who are too cheap to see how expensive their crappy bike actually is to own.
