Seriously, I believe that I will make magnetic signs for the sides and rear of my SUV for my next bird count. "I AM COUNTING WILD BIRDS." People react suspiciously to people that stop in front of their home and stare at their yards thru binoculars. Always get at least one person who comes up to ask what I'm doing (which is fine, I'm happy to share my eco-messages). They say, "Just trying to keep out the riff-raff."
@sciencewrighter You can defuse a lot of that by wearing a safety vest and hard hat. Or you can get an orange blinking work light you can put on your vehicle with a magnet to look official.
@oh8hub@sciencewrighter LOL, looking like you're working on something with a hard hat/etc. typically makes people think you're doing something official (at least around here) and will reduce the questions.
@ai6yr@oh8hub@sciencewrighter I vote hi vis vest (automatically reduces suspicion, you’re not trying to hide!) and clipboard / entering data on your phone. She doesn’t need a hard hat, but everybody needs visibility, right?
