A new era of green and fair economic growth is on the horizon.

The EU-New Zealand Trade Agreement was signed today, paving the way for its approval by the European Parliament and ratification.

Among others, it will:

🔵 Eliminate tariffs
🔵 Open the market for services
🔵 Improve access to procurement
🔵 Facilitates flows

It will save businesses €140 million a year and increase EU investment in New Zealand by 80%.

This deal will bring us even closer together.

@EU_Commission
You are aware, right, New Zeeland is on the other side of the globe ? .

As much as you are probably right on economic benefits - it can't be green ;).
Ya need ships, ya need airtravel/transport.. to get it efficient an viable..

It is an "island" !!! - check in an Atlas, there is clearly lots of water around it, and it is clearly far away...

Don't just stick "Green" on anything ya say, it devaluation the projects that are realy.

Strasbourgdispatch,

@EU_Commission @lightweight what are your hot takes on this?

lothianburn,

@EU_Commission Europe will dine on NZ lamb rather than British Lamb.

@EU_Commission that’s the closest the Union Jack will ever get to free trade with the EU again.

@EU_Commission Green growth is a hoax. It’s just growth that will continue to destroy the habitability of our planet, included.

@EU_Commission In theory, we could do sustainable trade with whomever we want. All we need are armadas of sailing ships. Unfortunately, that won't happen.

@EU_Commission I just made a very brief research on cargo sailing vessels. Apparently, there are indeed some companies that are building or developing new sailing ships, e.g., the Fenix Class of TOWT (France) (in development), the Neoliner by NEOLINE (France) (under construction) and Sail Cargos Vega and Caiba (in service), amongst many others.

So, hopefully, this glorious sailing cargo fleet will come!

@EU_Commission It should also facilitate migration across the two, not just services and data. This should be a goal for any “trade” agreement. Btw, for anyone wondering, this is the gist of the agreement: https://policy.trade.ec.europa.eu/news/key-elements-eu-new-zealand-trade-agreement-2022-06-30_en

"This deal will bring us even closer together."

So close that kiwis will soon be considered climate-neutral, regional products, I guess.
