Also consider posting this over in /m/Japan

Hey Yuzu, I think this is a great idea. I’d think of this magazine as a “fresh fork” from the original community on reddit.

24-pin12V, in Will Police or Fire intervene if a business has an iPad that’s at risk of exploding?

The best you could do, if you really want to get involved, is hand them a flyer on the dangers of warped batteries.

Might make more sense to stay over at /m/japan until there is a large enough group that needs to be split out.

daph, in Will Police or Fire intervene if a business has an iPad that’s at risk of exploding?

the screen will probably break/the iPad will become unfunctional before the spicy pillow actually pops and catches fire, and then they'll replace it. I don't think there's an enforcement agency that can do anything about or will care.

Also migrated over from Reddit and by the end, JapanLife/JapanResidents, KansaiLife, and JapanFinance were the only remaining “can’t bear to unsubscribe” subreddits without significant alternatives. Hoping enough people move to kbin/lemmy that I can kill off those last few too.

A week late and didn’t spot a thread for this week yet, but this weekend, Kyoto weather is full mushi-atsui, so thinking of hitting up the kanji museum in the afternoon as it’ll be nice and cool and not likely packed with tourists.

Other than that, only major goal for the weekend is to finish reading 神の子どもたちはみな踊る by Murakami. Finally decided to push myself into reading the news and novels to get my reading/vocab level close enough to JLPT N1 level that I can sit the N1, or failing that, fall back to the N2 in December. Never done a JLPT test before so have no idea what to expect. I’m finding that short story collections are easier to motivate myself to read as they’re short and finishing each story gives you a sort of sense of accomplishment at having actually got something done.

tiredofsametab,

Glad you dropped by! Yeah, I still look at those subs a bit, but I've done my best to stop posting unless it looks like someone really needs help and that I can provide it (or I need help, I guess).

I always have trouble with reading. I'm not really into most manga and trying to read stuff I'm actually into requires so much dictionary time (as much for grammar as vocabulary in some cases), that I just stop. I've found slice-of-life stuff mostly tolerable, but I don't know that I actually enjoy it.

The weather was great, but I was just too burned out from work to really go anywhere. Stayed home most of the weekend going between Diablo IV and setting up a Matrix chat server for my family to hopefully slowly transition over to.

I did help maintain our small patch of garden a bit, and used my little charcoal grill to cook some meat and veggies (and make a big ol’ yakiimo!!). That was a nice bit of “outside” :P

I came over from Reddit as well. I've given a try to kbin and a few lemmy instances, but I ended up enjoying kbin better. I just finished a huge work project so I'm taking this week a bit easy, enjoying the nice weather and some craft beers!

I envy your (relatively) dry Tokyo summers. The humidity out west makes everything awful!

fushimi,

Humidity at 90% this morning in Kyoto! Just a bit more and we can max this thing out! Come on people! We can do this!

90% in Gifu too, lol. I'm fine 'cause I have AC but I feel real bad for my 刀鍛冶 husband lately. :(

fushimi,

Hopefully the total badassery of forging swords makes up for the heat these days!

Copying from Reddit. I hope we can get moved over here.

Signed the contract for my bike. It's my first "big-boy" purchase paid for in cash and that stung a bit. Still, there's basically zero chance of getting a loan on a property of the type/age I want and where I want without PR, so might as well use the money I was saving for something. Having the bike will make some things easier in my life, which is good. I just need to find some place with almost no traffic at first to practice driving. A bit nervous about getting it home when I pick it up next month, but I'm sure it will be fine.

Re-arranged my whole garden (in my parking space that was unused) so that I will have room for said bike and to thin out some failures. My corn never came up (not surprising given the seeds were old and a bit weird) and now it's too late for that. All but one of my garlic died. My black beans (as in kuro-ingen and not kuro-mame) are doing well, however, and have some pretty flowers. For some reason, all of my scallions but 1 pot died. I guess too much rain and not enough sun. My wife takes some each morning for her natto. I'll probably plant some more.

Started playing more with kbin (a reddit alternative) this weekend. It's having some growing pains, but looks to be good. Hopefully in the coming weeks, it fills out some missing features. As of now, I only go to /r/japanlife and /r/rideitjapan still on reddit.
