The Confederate flag, which was torn down twice this week by groups who consider it offensive, will not fly again above Civic Center plaza, Mayor [Diane] Feinstein says. The mayor made her decision yesterday, after Supervisor Doris Ward asked her not to replace the flag. “I want to make it very clear that my decision is based only on Supervisor Ward’s request,” Feinstein said. “I’m not impressed because some group shinnies up a flag pole and tears down a flag.”
Great look for the senior Senator from California earlier in her political career. The Snopes article tries to fly cover for her, but it’s pretty clear she’s an old (she was likely present for the grand opening of the Golden Gate Bridge) racist.
I guess I see an example of personal growth that shouldn't be unexpected in a 39 year span of someone's life.
Now, folks in 2023 who are still trying to pretend it's not a symbol of bigotry, racism, and oppression - those are the ones I feel should be first in line for a little finger wagging. YMMV.
That's not to say I'm a particular fan of Feinstein, but she seems to no longer be on the side of "but muh heritage", so that's something.
What growth has she demonstrated? Has she ever apologized or shown anything to suggest she’s not the same deliberately ignorant politician she was decades ago? I’ve read through the Snopes article multiple times, and failed to see any signs that she’s “grown”. She literally saw the Golden Gate Bridge debut. That’s old AF, and t the Dems likely to replace her aren’t any better, just a generation or two younger.
I went looking for evidence I could use to counter your argument, but I admit that there isn't really any. There's really not much evidence of personal growth, only that she's been aligned with a party where that sort of behavior would have been increasingly frowned upon anyhow, so I accept your rebuttal.
