Can someone please explain why in the assessment of the level of support needs, it's all about social and routines/repetitive behaviours, and there's nothing about how sensory overwhelm is a Very Big Problem for many autistics?
I can deal with the social stuff (avoid) and the routines/rb (don't do them in public), but the sensory storm of going to the store is A Real Problem for me.

Could be the reason that they only assess what can be helped to be eased via learning skills/therapy ?
One can learn skills to cope with necessary social interaction and how to chanel behaviors that might harm the individual, but sensory overload is something that cannot be helped other than via avoidance (headphones, gloves, glasses)

Support means you get items to help you and people to support you by assisting you with the things you can't do (on your own). This works for social and routine stuff just as much as for sensory things.

If I need someone to do the shopping for me, that's true wether I can't shop due to social stuff or due to sensory stuff. Wether I need an expensive communication tablet due to language stuff or expensive ANC headphones due to sensory stuff, I still need it.

@tine_schreibt @actuallyautistic American self dxed here. Lots of that has to do with how autism diagnosis focuses mainly on how our disability makes life inconvenient for others. In the medical establishment our inner experience is not prioritized and often overlooked.

That makes a depressing amount of sense...
