The appalling #environmental cost of #cryptocurrency and #Blockchain doesn't get enough coverage. #Bitcoin mining in the #US is consuming as much energy as the state of #Utah; in #Ethiopia- a country where few people have electricity- they're building a #dam for it. In #ElSalvador, where bitcoin is (unwanted) legal tender, unused equipment is rusting in the sun- but that's a lot of #computer #waste. This and from Amy Castor and @davidgerard
