TFS Weapon Tuning Updates

There’s a lot of info in this post and stat changes. I’m just going to summarize the main stuff here.

TL;DR:

  • Boss Spec, Major Spec, and Minor Spec are gone. Damage buffs to compensate.
  • Exotic primary Damage buff down 10%
  • Big List of damage buffs
  • Exotics with splash damage have their splash damage reduced
  • Lots of gun and archetype specific changes.
    • Wave frame GLs are getting their wave length reduced and the width and length of the wave will be affected by the blast radius stat.
  • Exotic Nerfs:
    • Divinity
      • Number of shots needed to make the bubble increased by 75% (RIP)
    • Ostio Striga
      • 4 second cooldown between poison explosions
    • Lament
      • Healing reduced by 20%. High end of damage combo reduced by 20%
  • There’s a bunch of exotic buffs. None of which seem to exciting. Definitely not enough to make up for the nerfs above.
  • Perk Changes
    • Lots of changes. Eddy Current gets a needed buff.
    • Chain reaction explosion radius reduced 15% and damage reduced 20% on Special weapons. Heavy weapons do 30% more damage on explosions.

Some opinions:

  • Bungie really doesn’t want us to have add clear huh?
  • Forebearance gets a deserved kick in the teeth but now other waveframe GLs suffer. The issue was chain reaction. Not how big and far the wave was.
  • Some completely unwarranted Exotic nerfs except maybe Ostio Striga.
    • Divinity really isn’t needed in non-master content except maybe on Rhulk. Increasing the ammo it takes to trigger the effect while not increasing reserves effectively kills this gun. This also makes Cenotaph less useful.
    • Lament is also only the “meta” pick in like 2 raid encounters. Crota and Atraks. It’s useful in some dungeon bosses but not REQUIRED.
    • Ostio is a braindead add clear exotic but 4 seconds between explosions is too much. This reminds me of the 3 second cooldown on Titan hammer throws which will make the gun just feel lackluster.
  • The Exotic buffs aren’t moving the needle for me except maybe Symmetry and Necrochasm. Making a gun do slightly more damage just isn’t enough anymore. You’ve got to make it have interesting interactions with the rest of the sandbox.

Overall, i’m quite happy with these changes.

Not quite sure I understand the reasoning behind the Lament, but its healing factor definitely felt a little high. But 20% off is rough.

I’ve heard a lot of people complain about the Divinity nerf, but that was a long time coming. Weapons that can roll bait-n-switch + reconstruction, such as Apex Predator, can put you so far ahead of everyone else in the dps meter, that it’s almost unfair

Yeah I mean it’s going to be fine. Right now it just looks like they’re kicking stuff while it’s down. I’m sure it’ll make more sense when TFS is out.
