thingsiplay,

With a gui I guess, right? Not one that is run by terminal commands. Did you search or try any emulator yet and is something too big or does not work for you? What environment are you in and what repository do you can use? Even if the filesize of the emulator is small, it might introduce lot of dependencies that are much bigger in size. How old is the PC actually? Ancient? How smol do you need it?

You could also just download an .AppImage file, which does not require you to install anything and all dependencies are included in this one file. So while the file looks big (15 MB for recent build Snes9x 1.62.3), it still is all you need, compared to an installation from your package manager: github.com/snes9xgit/snes9x/releases

sleepybisexual,

My only search was on mint software manager. And like 2 GB for SNES is insane to me.

Size isn’t that big of an issue.

Device is a celeron laptop from nearly a decade ago

What emulator did you try to download that was 2GB? They’re definitely not that big, but your choice of emulator might be pulling in a lot of dependencies especially if it’s a Flatpak.

If you install it from apt you should get the smallest size as it can share the most libraries with the rest of the OS.

But that won’t change that if you run KDE but end up with a GTK-based emulator you’ll pull in a good chunk of Gnome to run it. Or if it’s a 32bit application and your first one, it needs to pull in a good chunk of the OS in 32bit variant.

Total installed size really isn’t an indicator of a bloated emulator or any indication it’ll struggle on your old Celeron. I’m kinda curious how you end up with a 2GB though that seems rather extreme.

sleepybisexual,

Yea. Seems like it was dependencies.

Flatpak go brr.

Got snes9x
