But wait, there's more, we're standardizing our Groups implementation so other projects can take advantage of our App and Client API.

So its compatible with lemmy but uses a different API and they want their API to be the standard for the threadiverse? This is why we should be using the C2S, but since we're not you should just stick with the lemmy api since that's where the client ecosystem is already at.

ALostInquirer,

Any indications yet of how this may compare to similar group features or focuses via Friendica and Mobilizon respectively?

lemmyreader,

Yay for the mentioned Lemmy compatibility.

Pretty epic to be fair. Especially the Lemmy compatibility.

moitoi,

Great news!

helenslunch,

Okay but, why wouldn’t you just use Lemmy? Is PixelFed going to censor posts without a photo?

Pixelfed is more like Mastodon for images, you follow people not communities.

helenslunch,

…Well then what is “PixelFed Groups” and why does it federate with Lemmy if it’s fundamentally different?

It’s just another way of interacting with ActivityPub groups. Like K/Mbin or Piedfed etc. And it seems to be quite nicely integrated with Pixelfed, so making for example photography focussed communities in it (that you can also participate in from Lemmy) seems like a net-win.
