Estimates are that 475 million non-human animals are killed on the roads of Brazil every year. So what's a scientist to do - figure out how to expand the train network and get cars off the roads?

Nope, these people trained an "AI" image detector to identify animals. It didn't do very well, and doesn't even work in low light or bad weather. And the tasks of installing cameras and - um, doing something to prevent the deaths of the animals - is left to others.
