Go Wide! A look at four top ultra-wide primes for Micro Four Thirds
For a while, it was actually not easy to get ultrawide rectilinear primes for Micro Four Thirds, but in the last 5-6 years or so, the Chinese lens makers have started adding a lot of options, lead by Laowa. Last year Panasonic finally released the 9mm f/1.7, a lens I've been calling out for a long time.
DPReview did a round up not too long ago, but it's actually not tagged properly in their CMS, so it doesn't show up in either reviews or articles, so I thought I'd put it here so hopefully it gets some traction.
I'm surprised at how well the 9mm did, given the intial MTF graph for it didn't look as stellar as some of the other lenses, like the 15mm f/1.7. It's not a very expensive lens so I'm debating if I want to add that as part of a trio of small primes (I have the Olympus 17/1.8 and the Panasonic 42,5/1.7). A bonus of the 9mm is the really close minimum focusing distance, at 9.5cm.
Another surprise is how the Laowa 7.5mm f/2 placed last in every comparison in this roundup. Reviews were quite encouraging when it was released, so maybe it's been surpassed since.
