The point of the tweet is you absolutely ALL fucking know rapists and harrassers.
Abusers are manipuators, and you are not immune.
But even that excuses too many of you who absolutely witness sexual harassment and other aspects of rape culture regularly and say fuck all.
When someone says they care about religious freedom, they mean....
I want to force others to follow my religion.
Just like "Falss accusations ruin lives" means...
I don't want to be accused.
At no point do either of these speaker care about anyone but themselves. They use other people only as a weapon to delegitamize the complaints of those being silenced/forced.
I will die on this hill, and I have many times before. There is no reason that America can’t take care of its citizens. If we could spend at least 2 trillion dollars bombing a bunch of Stone Age people back to the Stone Age. Especially when the dude they said they were trying to bomb wasn’t even there.
Then we could offer the homeless a place that’s safe warm and dry to sleep. We could offer drug addiction treatment to the addicted. We could offer medication to the sick. At the very least no American should go hungry.
Story time!! Two friends of mine were so broke that they lived off of nothing but biscuits (or for you non Americans scones?) for over 2 months. They got scurvy. Two of my friends in America got fucken scurvy in like 2017. I want you to let the absurdity of that sink in. They had no money, and no transportation. Stores are too far to walk to.
Absolutely, there is more than enough to go around, keeping us hungry and desperate is a feature to make sure we have no choice but to make them profit, not a bug
I was a firefighter and those guys are definitely still racist as fuck good ol boys, they just don’t get state sponsorship to hunt Black people for sport
Good point and yeah, it's more fuck the police less praise firefighters - that's the problem with systemic oppression, it shows up in all parts of the system.
This is a shit take because if we lived in the hypothetical world where your wish came true, then nothing could be done if someone started up their own paramilitary organization or if a giant corporation decided to arm up and take whatever they wanted.
What are you going to do if something like Wagner rolled through your neighborhood and demanded you pay them?
The unfortunate thing is I think that’s actually the point for a lot of people. They won’t say it out loud, but they think the pregnancy is the punishment for an irresponsible lifestyle and promiscuity, and they think dangerous abortions are the punishment for pursuing abortion.
If you attempt a risky illegal abortion and die because if it, many anti-choicers will think you deserved it.
TBF I’ve known a hand full of men who openly talk about harassing or having harassed women. They just don’t see it as harassment, because they think it’s “no big deal” or that they “have” to treat women like that.
TW sexual assault: I was once waiting for a friend when a very drunk man came up to me and started talking. He was babbling about how he likes to fight, and his ex and so on, when he suddenly shouted (direct quote): “I didn’t rape her! I just punched her in the gob a few times and she spread her legs all on her own!”
I think that’s an extreme case, but not as extreme as one might think.
This right here is the quiet part of the tweet out loud, thank you! 👏👏👏
It's all around all of them (us!) constantly, it just isn't a problem to them, so they "don't see" it (to varying degrees of awareness).
Also jfc what that guy said to you, but as you say not that extreme or even unusual.. 😕
It’s a particular kind of weird as a trans person. You go from being largely ignored while out and about to getting looks of disgust to getting catcalled all within the span of a year in my case.
There’s a sort of, yay I pass from a distance kind of thing but then it settles in and it becomes yet another thing to try and tune out and hope words are the worst of it. Heaven forbid some guy hollers at you and then stops his truck up ahead cause you said nothing and didn’t look his way.
That must be such a strange and overwhelming mix of emotions. I can only imagine it's like when we afab folks hit puberty and suddenly were seen as an object of desire and there's all this unwanted attention that we've also been taught to take as a compliment, it's so confusing.
It is. As someone who got a lot of those messages that were directed at AFAB folks and internalized them it was like putting a critical piece into a puzzle. It’s one thing to hear about it and have some insights. It’s another to be immersed in it so late in life comparably.
