You've probably heard from transphobes about how "you can't change your DNA," so nothing you do in transition really matters. "Basic biology," they whinge. Well... what about intermediate biology?
This week on #StainedGlassWoman, come and see How HRT Rewrites Your DNA by just plain turning off the parts you don't need and turning on the ones you do! Now with more wedding photos, from another queer wedding.
@Impossible_PhD why always use the narrative of an anti-position to begin with? you loose most folks this way, because you tend to be to aggressive, since it's to harsh for neutral people.. so they tend to lean to the other side, which didn't bother them. knowing it's political incorrect, but our brain doesn't work like that. we a primates, others are dangerous, unknown things potential hurtfull to us.
@io Honestly, I'm not sure what you're asking. Your language is pretty chaotic in places, and some terms you use, like anti-position, are not used and have no meaning in rhetoric.
What I write is called autoethnography, and it's a very standard research tool because it puts quantitative research into personal perspective, which gives those numbers a sense of scale. I'm not sure what you're even talking about in terms of neutral people. This isn't political writing. It's purpose isn't to--
@io --persuade. This writing exists to explain scientific phenomena to the people those phenomena affect most.
And, given the size and growth rate of my readership, I would gently suggest that you don't know what you're talking about when you take the position you've taken.
@Impossible_PhD So your assumption is, that your audience is on the right side while antitrans (or whatever the term is) perople are not. so you explain that minority... didn't read your post actually, poped up in my timeline so I spoke about the bad rhetorics used. if you teach bad rhetorics used by a minority, keep in mind it's not representative compared to real world data. It's just anecdotal evidence or something I'd guess. No question asked so far, thanks for taking the time:)
@io Io, you're speaking to someone with a doctorate in rhetoric.
Think about that for a moment.
So, just to make sure I understand: you're trying to browbeat a literal professor or rhetoric about rhetoric, you don't bother to read what you're making assumptions about before doing so, and you assume everything I talk about is anecdote without checking?
Just FYI, each and every one of my articles is thoroughly sourced w/scholarly articles because real world data is crucially important to me.
@christian_bonanno no. No, thays not at all how it works or what the science says. If that were the case, giving a person hormones that correspond to the person's AGAB would make their gender incongruence go away. It does not.
For reference: the science in this article and all statements therein were checked by the chair of biology at a local university. As such, they are accurate.
@Impossible_PhD Considering how they natter on about chromosomes, none of them have any clue what's actually going on for triggering one pathway or the other. If you said “SRY gene” to them they'd just give you a blank stare.
@Impossible_PhD Very cool! I was in a lab working on methylation of DNA 25 years ago, when it was just being discovered. I imagine all of these genes that change methylation in response to HRT will provide gender researchers targets to work on for decades!!
@Piousunyn Just seems like you were trying to rage bait, is all. Like, I agree with the basic premise, but it has nothing to do with what we're talking about here.
@Impossible_PhD I will fully profess that I found the science on this topic quite difficult, but you explained it very well without talking down to the audience. I can tell your a real good teacher Zoe.
But I had to stop to say - as a parent to identical twins I've known this for a while, but no idea on what it was.
Both myself and my partner fall under the trans umbrella (trans-girl and envy) and both of my kids have expressed identifying as agender - with one moreso than the other 😯
back to reading 😁
Edit: just finished - that was awesome, and if I didn't have to go to sleep I'd dive into learning more!
